the new premium format spider by SS is very nice but i absolutely hate the base, ruins the entire piece for me...so this one takes the cake for me personally

Yeah, I'm with you there. There are other little things as well, but I'm really not a fan of the base (and it's half the statue! lol).

Would this be safe to put on a detolf shelf, or should I just put on the wood bottom?

Side question if anyone knows: How much weigth can the tops hold?

This thing barely weighs 5 pounds, it'll be fine

Weight is not a problem at all. As far as the top of the detolf.. it can hold quite a bit. I have statues on mine.
