Sometimes I just want to beat people within an inch of their life.
Here's my thoughts on these pvic knockoffs. I don't think anyone here will be tempted to get that and it doesn't really diminish the hobby. It actually might act as a gateway piece for those who don't collect stats to get into the hobby or better yet be an introduction for younger kids or teens into the hobby and maybe provide us with the next Gen of collectors. Just my thoughts.

I don't get it. Neither was he making a justification nor speaking of moral arguments, and his hypothesis has been shown to be true in many other facets of collecting and consumerism.

Simple, actually. As entrari wrote, there are people that can only afford that now. In the future, their circumstances change and they can afford more, and look to higher quality. I hate to keep throwing examples out there, but it's like knockoff jewelry. Tons of people buy the knockoffs, but it turns to a yearning for the real thing. Talk to women about handbags, for instance.
It doesn't make the initial act more legitimate, but in the end, it benefits the original producer who gains from possible future purchases. Let's be honest, no one buying the $58 statue was ever going to buy the real thing anyway.
Obviously, it's a convoluted situation with many factors, but there is some merit to the hypothesis.
