Finally bringing back Ryan eh? Can't see Pine doing better than Baldwin in Red October. Looks like typical Bourne crap in it.

Wow this looks absolutely terrible. Too many cliches to count and they practically gave away that Keira Knightley is an undercover Russian.

I'm a huge fan of Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger especially. Did they really have to bring such a beloved character to a Hollywood-esque James Bond genre? Even the intro to this trailer mimics the one to Casino Royale. Welp at least they slap the Tom Clancy name on it to give it more credibility. Congratulations.

Exactly, Jack Ryan was never a super agent. Thank god Clancy didn't live to see this dreck come out. The title to the film is gross.

Hunt For Red October Jack basically stands around on a submarine.

Patriot Games he survives an ambush he just happens to be at and than an attempt on his family's life when they come after him.

Clear and Present danger he goes to Columbia and runs for his life away from the Cartel.

He was never an action star. He was never James Bond. I never bothered with Sum of All Fears because like this, it looks way out of character and thus quite pointless. This just looks like that date movie Pine just did where he was a secret agent trying to get a girl. Name attachment to a random action movie for more interest is about the worst thing you can do. Much like Robocop this forgettable trash will be lost in the shadow of it's far superior predecessor.

They have tried to adapt his "Without Remorse" for years but I guess they decided to make this bull **** instead.

So I'm guessing this wasn't a real Tom Clancy book?
Why didn't they just make one of his other Ryan books?

Because Hollywood producers feel that the Jack Ryan movies of yesteryear, where he was an analyst/detective of sorts, and not an action hero Jason Bourne type, will not appeal to the dumbed down audiences of today. They will appeal to the intelligent minority. And even if they are good films, they will not surpass their expectations of the 1 billion mark. Their greatest fear is not recouping the initial budget.

I think The Sum of All Fears fell into this category of a financial flop - but for several reasons, including it being a horribly written film.

Without Remorse was about John Clark, not Ryan, but I wish they would do movies more focused on Clark. I echo many of Deckard's comments. I never envisioned Ryan as a Chris Pine-type in any of the books I've read about him. But having said that, it could be a good movie. I'll probably watch it in DVD.

Yeah I know it was Clark, and if they did Without Remorse it would lead into a Rainbow Six film. I guess we need to accept the best Clancy films are already behind this.

Make a Rainbow Six movie(because that has the name recognition) and if it's succesful make a W/O Remorse spin off. Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, is R6 really not a ****ing no brainer to these hooples? Same goes with Splinter Cell.

They'd also be some of the easiest games(since thats probably how most people know them) to adapt into actual good movies that would show it's possible.

so who is catching the movie this weekend? Love Chris Pine and Keira Knightley so I am intrigued, but there's little to no hype for this movie at all. :lol

I would've rather seen them adapt one of the actual novels too. The title was just Jack Ryan(which was horrible) then they made it even worse by adding the subtitle...oh boy. This will flop hard.

I haven't read Clancy in a long while, but didn't Ryan have a son named Jack Ryan Jnr who went around hunting terrorists in a post "war on terror" world? And if so couldn't this movie be about him and still based on Tom's books, not the Ryan that became Prez?

i think they waited for him to exit before doing the "tada we made a movie".

pretty much looks that way. :lol

On a side note, a commercial just played for this claiming its the first must see movie of the year. :slap

I don't know how you can **** up a story based on his work considering all the work is pretty much done, all you would need to do is build a script around it.

The Hunt for Red October is one of my all time favorite films, and will be as good as it ever gets when it comes to Clancy films.

Ewwwwwwwwww :lol

Harrison Ford has played him. So has Alec Baldwin. And most recently, Ben Affleck. But in the latest reboot of Tom Clancy's most famous big- screen character, it is 'Star Trek's' Chris Pine who has the honour of playing the heroic intelligence analyst Jack Ryan.
