Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Wasn't aware anything had, you have to bear in mind that he's a new Dad and kids take up your time. I'm sure he'll get round to his projects when he has time.

I'm still having to wait for the DID to hit the UK so we're pretty much in the same boat right now.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Has there been a decent Connery Bond sculpt? Really need one.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The Maximus, pictured a few pages back, is without a question the best one to date.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

To me, that sculpt could easily be surpassed. If you compare it to the pic of Sean himself it's actually way off.

Just because it's one of the only ones doesn't make it the best

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The truth is that it's the best at the moment but far from the best.

I'm actually utterly disappointed an have been for years at the lack of Sean Connery sculpts. With an iconic character and actor and everyone from tertiary characters on the walking dead, to stan lee, to Osama bin laden and hitler having multiple quality sculpts is it wrong to wonder what the deal with like two Sean Connery sculpts the Sideshow one(s) and the Maximus?

It's disappointing to me that its boarder line making me angry. I thought with the hit that was skyfall and the influx of Criag, (albeit bad efforts) we'd see a few SC. I really have no idea what's going on.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

It could be a generational thing. Sean Connery stopped playing Bond in the early 70's, which would be before a lot of collectors and sculptors in today's world grew up or were born.

If you grew up in the Moore era then it's likely that Bond wouldn't be high on your list of all time movies. We then hit the 80's when new breeds of action hero emerged, Indy, Arnie et al.

If there is a talented sculptor out there that is a true Bond fan and could provide us with a Connery then we've yet to see him/her.

Never say never though....

Do you work for the Broccoli family? ;) Never Say Never Again (based on the Thunderball story) was released in 1983.

Actually, it does mean it's the best. It's the best available. While it's not "the best possible," nothing else available from anyone, whether a limited number custom or not, is as good in sculpt or paint app. The issues I have with it are, like with so many sculpts, the exaggerated features.

While it's not perfect, there is no one on this planet who knows Sean Connery at all that will not immediately recognize him from the sculpt - which is more than I can say for a number of other character sculpts from the likes of Hot Toys, Sideshow or any other industry veteran. It looks a lot more like Connery than your avatar looks like Dominic Purcell for example. ;)

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Never Say Never Again, even though it has, I believe, now been acquired by the Bond company, wasn't an official Bond when it came out and was hardly memorable. Tastes had changed.

Official or not, it was Connery "playing" Bond. ;)

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Ok, true enough, but as I said there are generations out there to whom that won't mean as much.

Mass appeal holds sway these days, and it's debatable whether Bond has it over other stuff right now.

I agree with you, but I don't think there's any room for debate, a Bond-era Connery is definitely not a hot item at the moment and is unlikely to ever be. Maximus as of a few months ago still had some sculpts left of their limited run.

It's hard to argue the hype of mass appeal but I totally agree here that Bond Connery should be iconic enough to transcend any generation and the hype of the new should just refuel an never-ending fire if anything.

I'm an 80's baby but the truth is that more than anything Brosnen was the bond of my childhood. that being said, any die hard Bond fan knows SC is the most iconic/

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

We're in total agreement here. It's that hype and mass appeal that seems to drive the high volume side of the Hobby however. But of course there's no 1/6 license available for Bond anyway, so until that time comes (once again) we won't know if any of the big boys will risk a production run.

Now as far as customs go, there's really no reason that Connery couldn't be the subject of another small run - I just think that the people making these kinds of sculpts are stretched very thin at the moment and as you can see, many other customs are taking upwards of a couple of years before they get into interested parties' hands. One recent case in point I stumbled upon the other day: "The Driver" in the customs forum.

Agreed. Shocking how little love Connery seems to get as a Bond figure. He is the iconic Bond, just seems to be way before the time of many collectors appeal. Not mine though.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Agreed. My favorite Bond by far.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

First one Bond should be iconic for all time Bond lovers. And when i heard "Bond" i always imagine man what Connery have made.At first moment for me Bond is Conery and Connery is Bond-like same man.Even i'm also Brosnans time guy. There is hope Spenser have made one, but there no pics and info yet(because of much work with Dracula i think). Also in some mail Trevor wrote me about big interess to make SC.Maybe we can ask Dennie(Kim) to make figure of first Bond? There was nothing new about long time i think. And also i think there will be more interesents as we thought now.
