Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

If you haven't read the actual books, you should. Timothy Dalton was closest to the character in the books than anyone. It's too bad his movies didn't fare well, but trying to follow the goofy Roger Moore era with serious interpretations was going to be tough.
I think Dalton was a great Bond. His films suffer from the same problem most 80's action films do...cheesy soundtracks and bad special effects and pyrotechnics. Every time I see a bullet hit dirt or wood and make sparks I literally cringe. Dalton himself was imposing and a bad*ss. I was upset when he bowed out of future Bond flics.

I cringe when I see a bullet make sparks on anything. Most TV shows will have them sparking off a car (steel body, plastic bumpers, aluminum trim, glass, etc.), concrete, whatever. Sorry, bullets don't make sparks, but they do break things and make holes.

Loved Dalton as Bond. Top 3 along with Connery and Craig for me.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I just rewatched Living Daylights for the first time in ages, and I thought it was surprisingly pretty good. Although I do wish they had let Dalton display a bit more of his natural charm, and not have him be so utterly grim and serious the whole time.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Actually, Dr. No and From Russia With Love were both less gadget oriented, too, and follow the books pretty closely. Connery knew his run as Bond was coming to an end when they made the movies less about him being a detective, and more about a guy playing with gadgets, which started with the stupid duck-hat sequence in the beginning of Goldfinger (something he hated). I know I'm probably in the minority, but FRWL is one of the best Bond movies pre-DC IMO. For Your Eyes Only is hands down Moore's best outing as Bond, and would have been a great Bond film, if it wasn't for the horrible acting of the blonde chick in it. Much more serious than any of his other Bond films. Goldeneye was, again, IMO, the only good Brosnan movie... but again, too many gadgets. Craig's doing an amazing job as Bond (despite the blonde hair), but the last two films, although good, were nowhere near as good as Casino Royale. I'm hoping Spectre really ups the game.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

My favorites are FRWL, OHMSS, L&LD & FYEO. They all have good and bad points. One of which is that most are too long. I think the producers would do themselves a favor and watch the first 2 Bourne movies and try to put out a product that is similar. Great intrigue, action and REAL type scenarios. The American w/George Clooney was a good, gritty spy-type story that would fit Bond IMO.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

One if my fav bond films is licence to kill, I like how dark and serious it was. Dalton imo was a great JB

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Actually, Michael Fassbender was recast by the guy that was painting the sculpts for ML. ML are apparently chasing licenses. They'll never get Bond, but, there are more minor Craig movies that could yield something. I wouldn't hold your breath though....

Agreed. If you read the ML fb posts they say they are interested in creating art but a little reading between the lines makes it obvious that they are trolling for bigger fish and bucks. Still a shame that we missed out on that sculpt.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

It's more what it was than what it is. It was to be released by Modern Life, but, they ran into trouble with another of their sculpts and are trying to chase licenses. It's possible this head may surface as a recast but I wouldn't hold your breath for an official release...

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The ML Craig sculpt is nice.
But I still think the bbkill and Inigou is the top of the food chain for Daniel Craig sculpt.
