Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The Aston Martin interlude was just stupid. A cheap "wink" as Wor Gar put it. It could have even worked actually. All they had to do was have Bond and M run past a classic autobody shop and see the car, do a double take stop and think and then steal it. That would be enough of a nod. And it would be just a car not retrofitted with the gadgets which I thought these movies were trying to get away from. How the hell Would he have had that car fitted with the gadgets? And why would they for a car from 50 years ago with gadgets and not a top of the line automobile from today?

If you're going to throw away continuity and start fresh, throw it away.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

it's a James Bond movie. It's the 50th anniversary. Of course the film is going to be peppered with Nods. It has to be.

They're not throwing away the continuity. They're just restarting it so we can see something new. Which is...an early Bond. They aren't taking a **** on the rest of the series here, like Batman did.

Plus, asking questions like that in a Bond movie seems a bit...silly. Bond has never been a franchise of logic.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I've watched it twice now. Once in the cinema, once on blu. I have to say that I did not enjoy either of Craig's first two outings, and liked what I'd read about this one, so I was looking forward to this (eventually).
My most memorable 'hate' in this, is that there has been no need for swearing in a Bond movie, then we get, of all people Dame Judy Dench using F in one of her lines. I thought I must have misheard, but it was the first thing that my mate asked when we got out of the cinema. That was uncalled for .
The car is a classic, and it's really cool, but.. Didn't Craig get a DB5 in CR, and it sure wasn't a company model from 1964!!
I old go on about how I found the pacing odd, the editing erratic and the story silly. However, it did look good and I think I had more fun with this than I thought I would.
I enjoyed it better second time around.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Skyfall is a solid bond Flick, but Casino Royale it is not. Missing the magic.
That's exactly how I feel about it. But there's a very good chance no bond film will ever top CR for me. I still love Skyfall and will be watching it again as soon as it comes out on Blu Ray. :yess:

Yeah, DC won a DB5 in CR. I guess if this one had the same license plate as that, it would have worked better but, what the hell, its a DB5 in a James Bond film. I'm not complaining.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Positron, I am excited to see your Dalton! :) He's my favorite Bond after Craig. I'd love to eventually get his figure.

Thanks! Hes my fave Bond since I grew up on the License to Kill and Living Daylight vhs tapes haha.

Just saw an evilbay listing on it earlier. Get it if you can.

Before we dove into body mods and movie reviews...what's the story with the femfig? What head is that? How did you attach the wig? Is the outfit custom? Is the body a Triad Eva or Alpha? Nicely done! :clap

Thanks for the compliment, Gruff! :bow

Here's the story:
Body is Eva Triad.
Head is repainted Eva.
Wig from ebay (a troll doll style wig) and simply glued it to the head and coiffed it myself -- something I never really ever thought I'd do.
Dress is an old Barbie 'blue belle' dress.
Boa also from ebay.
Necklace, earrings, barrette, aqua ring (right hand) and Spectre ring (left) were all made from tiny jewelry parts.

Everything had to be customized to some extent -- i.e. had to separate the dress' shoulders to let out more material to let the dress hang lower on the Triad body.

I'm weak, but after seeing yours, I snagged one on evilbay. He's arrived and I'm totally excited about him, though I'm going to give him a real workover. I'm going to resculpt his hair so he's got the fluffy Dalton hair to start!

My dad likes Dalton best, so I think that may have biased me in his favor initially. My favorites are Dalton and Craig... I prefer the darker Bonds, I guess.

I've also been working on my Silva sculpt. it's not perfect, but I think once he's got his hair and ears, he'll work for me. And he'll get more refined as I smooth him out and stuff, too.
bardem2.jpg

It's my first 1/6th sculpt... and doing Bardem first was a mistake. His face is flat and asymmetrical... and while I find him very attractive, he is freaking hard to sculpt.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

That's your first 1:6 sculpt! Congrats, it's looking great.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

My issues were mainly that the opening chase had been exploited by commercials by the time I saw it... that it took its time getting Bond back in action... that there was just too much "nod to Nolan" with that convoluted 'Joker' plot (just to kill mommy in chambers?)... and the final section felt like another borrow, this time from "Bourne".

And don't get me started on the 'audience winks' with the DB5, the logic of which I still don't understand -- since Craig just got 00 status in CR, when the hell did he have any adventures in that car?

I like what Skyfall 'wanted' to be -- I think its heart was going in the right direction -- I just didn't like how it was executed. And these movies need a good editor... or at least a pacing director.

The whole film was a tribute to the previous Bond films.. the car, to the exotic locations, the music, the ambiance, the tux, etc.... had no problem with any of it.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

It does look ridiculous in its make-shift glory but, as I'm sure you know, amazing how much better the figure looks with the proper body shape.

That would be my choice for the next level of 1/6th perfection for companies like HT to take on: get the specific body proportions correct and not just use the same old bodies or mix-and-match body parts. Semi-firm 'foam' undersuits might be the way to go.

You don't get this look with stock True types...

love these wor gar, where did the goldfinger and odd job come from? and their clothing? thanks,..

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Ace Stromberg, Wor Gar!

I really enjoyed Skyfall, and it wasn't a follow up from Casino Royale like Quantum was. This reflected an older, battle hardened Bond that had been through all the missions that came after QOS. The M storyline also reflected this. If Skyfall was a chronological follow up then she would in no way have been about to be retired.

Anyway, Bond wasn't designed to be analysed up the wazoo, just enjoyed

M was never ready nor indeed going to retire, Silva manipulated things to get her out into the open, to humiliate her and then kill her...she was being forced to retire. That's why everyone hated when Mallory showed up, it's practically what the whole first two thirds of the film is about.

But even in a crazy world like that of Bond, there still has to be some form of internal logic which this film (regardless of how much I liked it...and I did, a lot) and all 3 of the Craig films smash to heck.

Same continuity as other Bonds. Why? The same M as Brosnan's Bond.
But it cannot be. Why? Because he's just got his 00 rating, it's the start of his career.
But it must be the same continuity. Why? well, he's got his exact same Aston Martin BD5.
So how does he get that DB5 with even the same array of gadgets? Because it's his own personal property, not the service, not Q's but his own private car.
If it was his car, how did M know about the ejector seat (they are definitely not 'chatty' pals)? Because...erm...no, hang on...why would you have an ejector seat in a car that is not 'service issue'?

Thanks. Oddjob is pure Sideshow, just a new body and some serious tweaking. Goldfinger is made from an old Spenser sculpt and various bits of clothing I secured over many years starting in 2000. That outfit finally came to fruition in 2007, so long ago now that I forget what the majot parts were -- but all were heavily tailored and dyed.

Sure it does.

I meant that I do not think that the whole film was a tribute. The DB5 was certainly, which is why it stuck out oddly for me. The rest of the movie seemed to play more like a nod to current movies; TDK, Bourne. It hardly seemed like a 'tribute' to Bonds of old... except in the fact that Bond has been borrowing from other films for many, many years now. The villain however does harken back to the great villains of yesterday, although I couldn't get "The Joker" out of my head, especially with the plot and the nasty "smile" moment in the Hannibal cell.

But look, check my customs, clearly I like Bond as much as everyone else in here. So... :duff
