Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

And how much does a DiD figure of that line run? These heads are only available as a full figure and will likely cost scalper prices parted out.... Still need an outfit and accessories for this guy. Maybe even a body if I get the head loose.

EDIT: I looked up the Toshiro Mifune heads on eBay. Affordable! Great :)

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Yeah, that's the thing, DID/3R aren't HT, people don't tend to pay them that much attention, particularly on eBay due to the subjects they cover. The thing I like about DID/3R is that there are UK sites that part out at decent prices, so even shipping wouldn't be a problem for me.

A full nude won't ever cost as much as an HT one. You just have to keep your eyes peeled....

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Not had it confirmed yet, but, it has been said that the 'DID' sculpt may be one of their 3R line, one of the SS Musikkorps figures they're doing.

From my experience of 3R they are even a notch above the usual DID heads. The Toshiro Mifune head they did is outstanding. This could get exciting!

3R is outstanding, the heads are very lifelike. I have the Goring sculpt and its as good as HT. If this Craig sculpt is 3R it is going to look very lifelike.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

saw this in bbicn , DID posted this on their weibo, a new Craig head sculpt for their soldier figures?

This is meh. Face is too thick looking. Craig's head is wider from side to side around the hat line than at the jaw line. The shape of his head is like a slightly squashed egg. The profile on this one looks pretty good, but front view not so much.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The private commission thread was definitely not the right place to try and start an interest list for another sculpt. If the original patron had stepped forward, it would have been something else entirely to ask him about splitting costs and then finding out if Adam was interested in casting - privately would have been best.

I think there would be enough interested parties in a definitive sculpt to help bring the costs down. If that sculpt were offered painted I'm sure there would be a lot more. And I think that's the hardest sell for any sculpt-only offer. If you're paying $50 to $100 for a piece, you probably want something that looks amazing when finished. Unless you're a very talented airbrush artist, you're not going to get that, no matter how good the sculpt is.

So if you're an enterprising sort of individual, you might write to Adam and one or two very talented painters and see what kind of rates you can negotiate, then start up a sales thread and set your own price on the finished product.

If I remember correctly the whole deal with this sculptor was he had a moral objection to making multiple copies of a sculpt he didn't have a license for. I give mad props to anyone who has religious/moral convictions and actual stands by them, weither I agree with the philosphy or not. That's why I find it strange that he never made it right with people who bought the tennis ball sized sculpt he offereed. He lead people to believe he sculpted it, and makes excuses for why he thinks the size is okay. That sculpt wasnt that great either, very similiar to the DiD one. The new one he is doing looks nice, but at the last stage I saw it at, it looked borderline cartoony. To many of the features exaggerated. If he wants to do private commissions only that's his business. Once I find out something is unobtainable I lose interest. There are constantly new sculptors coming along, or seasoned sculptors looking for new markets. As long as the debate about what is a good sculpt of any particular celebrity continues there is a chance for a difinitive sculpt to come along. If I were a sculptor trying to make a name for myself I would keep hammering away at sculpts of Craig and a few others that seem difficult to capture until I got them right.

Wow, complete opposite of what I think. It's the profile I have the most worries with on this sculpt. But the jawline is most definitely not as wide as the hat line on this sculpt. If it were (on any sculpt) it would look absolutely ridiculous, we concur there. Unless we're talking about The Hulk. Or Sponge Bob Squarepants.

I wouldn't say it's "meh," but you do illustrate the issues with the sculpt. The head shape is off. The face is great. I think I can live with the shape being slightly off.

Don't get me wrong. The profile isn't perfect, it's just more accurate than the front view in my opinion. For all the problems the ZWCO one has the shape of the head is pretty close if a bit exaggerated. The paint job will expose the problems with the DiD one. Too many people taking a crack at Craig to pounce on every sculpt that comes out. The shape of the head may seem a trivial thing to get stuck on, but it matters as much to the overall likeness as anything else. The compromise made on the Medicom Jake sculpt to fit the hat turned that promising sculpt into a fail.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I think the better certain sculptors have got at doing heads, the more spoilt by them we've become. Had DiD's been done when Casino Royale came out it would have been hailed as the best ever.

Reposting and updated for the most current "best" mass produced head.

I love Raymond's figures. He has some brilliant stuff. He Bourne, his Leon, his Loading Toys Bond.... I loved them all as they came out and he photographed them. So if/when he gets his ultimate DC Bond head, I'm gonna have to live vicariously through his collection. I just can't afford whatever sculpt he has in mind.

I don't feel I'm "settling" for the ZCWO or DiD one at all. I've skipped over every other head that has come out so far not thinking it was worth the money. These two newest offerings being released look like they'll be worth the money. I like them both and am leaning toward the DiD one. We're not positive the DiD one will even be released? Or when it will be released? Or what it will be released with? I'm hoping most people dislike the ZCWO head as many of you seem to so they don't sell out by the time I find out if/when the DiD head is being released!

In the meantime, where's the cheapest place to get a Asmus Bond suit?

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

This thread has been a great read as of late.

I'm well and truly in the camp that will always be looking for the best DC head available. Which I think is just me and raymond :lol As of right now its adams new wip by an absolute mile.

It's worth keeping in mind that the DID is based off DC in skyfall. If it were Casino Royale, he would have more hair at the sides, which could help with the too thin around the ears issue which yruh8n has, which I completely agree with. I'd love to see someone photoshop it with casino royale hair.

The more I look at it the more I like it though. I love the thought of bashing DC from skyfall. Imagine a 1:6 DB5 to go with him :monkey4 why did that magazine subscription have to be 1:5!!!

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I'm not going for a scene specific look so the hair is not an issue. Still can't decide between a gray suit or a tux. A long coat like he wears in QoS with gloves would look pretty nifty as well!

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I think the Scotland suit look is the way to go. Charcoal pinstripe! He wears a long coat in skyfall, too!

I appreciate that bud! truly! :1-1:

It's kind of like I was saying though why I got a bit irritated about that whole private commission thing with Adam, is that if that were my project I'd a) want to lessen the price in any way I could by bringing more into the project, because really at the end of the day we are buying dolls here. If i wanted to have one off pieces of art I'd be saving my money for a Damien Hirst piece or a Worhol print or something. I spend enough on these silly dolls as it is and b) I'd want to share the love. No really... even if it was just a few of us die hards on this thread to go in on the thing, I'd at least want us crazy die hards that all argue about the best DC sculpt to have a shot at getting what could be the best one. Private commissions? Not cool. Sorry but that's just me!

I do see what you and some of the others are saying in the fact that there is something great feeling about just buying a head that is all the way ready to go, paint sculpt etc. Kind of like how i felt when I put the Enterbay Bourne head on my already bashed figure.

I like seeing all of the Craig action but with so many of them I'm just dying for a perfect one already, it sucks seeing two get so close but not be made readily available.

I really wish that Enterbay would just do one and put it on some random nude body like they did with Damon. ZCWO did id but they do not have the skills to pull off a proper perfect portrait.

Why is it ok to make one head and not multiple copies? What are the laws pertaining to the likeness of others? I couldn't paint a picture of Daniel Craig's head and sell prints of it? It's not James Bond. It's a head that looks like an actor. Are the likeness of actors copyrighted? Could I not take photos of Daniel Craig and put them up on the web and distribute them without his permission?

I don't fully understand the legal aspects and logistics of this philosophy. He's already selling unlicensed heads. His logic is a bit backward in my opinion. I thought it was up to the buyer, I didn't realize Adam didn't do group commissions anymore. He did plenty in the past....

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

The toyscity tuxes im so stoked on, they look great! the suits look a little lackluster by comparison but still like great options nonetheless, man I'd kill for suits the caliber of the century toys "toys2" suits that came out a few years ago, I didn't realize it at the time but they were kato quality! Even HT did not come close, I still have the gray pinstripe one not being used but that's just because I've not tried to bash anyone who wears a suit like that. Wayne has the Wayne one and the black pinstripe is on Obidiah Stane.

The legality of it seems to change depending on who you ask. Most license holders won't spend the time or money to chase down artist doing one of a kind pieces. They will however persue individuals or companies that are selling multiple copies of the same item. There have been artist who post here who have gotten warnings or even cease and desist letters about unlicensed products. My understanding was that Adam was not going to do any more projects that involved multiple copies. It seemed to be a moral issue of him not wanting to do something that technically is not legal. If I am wrong on that maybe someone can correct me. Regardless I am not that interested in what he is doing. That sculpt was a little too cartoony for my taste. Plus he defended the size of the other head that he sold. I think we can all agree that that head was WAY to big for most 1/6th scale bodies. His new sculpt is likely the same size if he thinks the first one was correct. I think it's kind of lame to post a sculpt in that area if its not going to be available. Put pictures of it in the show your shelves section when it's finished and on a body.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

This thread is kicking more *** now then it was when it was first started!

I'm torn, but the DID is looking good unpainted, but I'm in the "price-matters" camp bc I don't like paying out the nose for a guy in a suit. I'm probably going Asmus gray or the tux, but I want it to be easy and cheap as possible.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I gotta give some big Props to Snyderman. I purchased this head a couple of months ago and just finished painting it today. I have just about every DC head available and in my opinion This one has the best likeness. Snyderman sells 3 different versions, this is his Skyfall version. Let me know what you think.
