Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

I just would of liked it to be a historic portrayl of the Titanic disaster. That's interest enough for me I don't need a love story.
I get your point, but if movie was made that way, it wouldn't touch the audience, and wouldn't be nowhere near as successful! :)

I can see why some may call Titanic a bad movie, but I personally thought it was a well made movie, very touching with a very emotional song/theme if I may add. I was quite surprised it was done by the same guy who did Terminator and Aliens.

However, I am amazed that Avatar is doing so well when everything else considered, it's not something so spectacularly mind blowing. Maybe it's because we have seen so much in terms of CGI that some of us don't pick up on the improvements. Maybe Cameron's name is also having an affect in the popularity of the movie.
As I said, people can say they don't like it, but nobody can say it's a bad movie, not by any definition!

Also, about Avatar, I don't think that Cameron's name means so much Worldwide that people would go over and over to movies, just to watch a movie because he made it.
It's a great movie that people can connect to. Simple as that, Cameron made a world that appeal to great number of people, and after watching the movie, most people feel like living on Pandora, they feel for characters, they feel the story (no matter how cliche, it's still a good story), they simply live, not only watch, that movie for 3 hours!

Cameron has the talent to make such movies, movies that can leave a trace, that make you think and talk about movie for days.
He's simply a great movie maker, one of the best, nothing more, nothing less.

Also it's numbers are very impressive considering there was no movie piracy when Titanic came out. Titanic also came out in the good ol' VHS days when it would literally take a year to go to video. Thus making people go see it more. I don't know if this stuff was brought yet but oh well.

On another note, I saw Avatar for the second time today, at 12:25 and it was basically sold out. I actually thought the theatre was going to be somewhat empty.:rotfl

first it was 'dances with smurfs' or '3d is a gimmick'. that came and gone. and now it's 'but it's unadjusted dollars', 'but 3d imax ticket price is higher', 'but but but...'

when gone with the wind came out, there's no internet, there's no xbox and ps3, there's no dvd, there's no 100 channels on tv. that's why adjusted dollar should be looked over, because that's not the only variable to be considered. it's a different era, a different game now. just accept that. and right now, titanic is numero uno. avatar is numero dos. for a movie right now to do avatar business is just an amazing feat. if imax 3d tickets is that easy to get, bob zemeckis's films would be up there instead of avatar.

the king of the world has just been re-elected. deal with it.

I'm sure we will not! However, we can't make any claims until final numbers roll in in a year or so. When you're running the mile it doesnt matter how fast you run the first 100 yards.
huh?

the film already reached a billion dollars in 17 days. that means he already ran the whole mile, in 17 seconds! there's no more track left to run on. :rotfl

that said, i found the film disappointing. too many ideas taken from other films, especially miyazaki's, and not enough original voice. and his patented double climax done so well in his earlier films is severely lacking in power here. not cameron's worst, but not his finest moment either. but really, the resounding success of this movie all across the board is undeniable. anyone thinking up lame excuses to say otherwise is just being silly.

Just came from seeing this. Like so many others have said it sure was pretty, but every plot twist and death was seen from the begining. If you've seen dances with wolves then you know what happens. I found it very predictable, but also very pretty.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

Saw it myself tonight. Man was that a pretty movie. The story was so predictable that it was boring. If you've seen dances with wolves then you pretty much knows what happens. If this wins best picture then my faith in Hollywood is shattered. As soon as he takes on the avatar persona you know exactly what will happen from start to finish. This has got to be the most predictable movie I have seen since the karate kid. But man is it pretty.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

Saw this yesterday in 3D and yes, Story was predictable, movie a bit too long(almost fell asleep in the middle) but visually, it was the best thing I have ever seen (movie wise). This is how a 3-D movie should be made, by bringing you into the movie and not having parts of the movie "shooting" out at you. Again, visually amazing.

Congratz on james cameron for making all this money !

1.2 BILLION WOW !

He diservs it !! this movie is a MASTERPIECE.
BEST MOVIE EVER MADE FOR ME !

sorry TDK you move second.

hmm. i guess i might have to go see this movie tomorrow at cheapskate tuesday and see if it's all the buzz everyones talking about.

1.2 billion already though is unbelievable, but if this can even hold a candle to ROTK or Titanic i'll be totally surprised and will admit it, if it in fact does imo.

I don't think you should go in expecting a story or narrative comparable (in quality) to ROTK or even Titanic...you might be let down.

agree with plasmid303. ROTK and even titanic are better films. there, i admit it. go in with that in mind and you might better enjoy avatar.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

Ok I finally saw it. What i didn't like was how all the animals had that wire to connect with Na'vi . I mean how do all those different animals evolve with arms and legs, and wings and tails but they all have the exact same 'USB' port

Also I think Quaritch really needed a 'Higher up' to report to because it didn't feel like he was the main guy in charge of everything. And the other guy playing golf didn't know what was going on. There really should have been another character calling all the shots

Also they didn't need to fight over the rocks anyway cause the Na'vi weren't even using them. They should have just gone in there and started digging. Also the Na'vi should have just hired a lawyer or something and sued them :duh :naughty

Just saw it for the first time tonight....wife and I loved it. I thought it was awesome, definitely a good time....

Same as all Na'vi, stronger, weaker, male, female, bigger, smaller, they all have it as well. It's the way their world works :)
I thought it's quite interesting.

And who says it's the exact same port, maybe some have weaker port, and some have stronger, depending on personality etc.
It's all just guessing..

The golf guy was the "Higher up", however Quaritch decided to simply ignore him later in movie, and do things his own way, took it all quite personally..
With one more character, I'd just feel like they're unnecessarily complicating it all. And I think that last battle wouldn't be as dramatic if we knew that Quaritch is fighting because of the Higher orders, and not because it's personal for him!

Yeah, because you would allow some unknown people to barge into your home, and start digging in the middle of the living room..
The point of the movie is Human habit to destroy, their ignorance to everything around them for the sake of obtaining something they want..
There was no place for the humans on Pandora if they were only there to leech from the planet and destroy it, and 95% of them were.

You're thinking about the wrong stuff after watching the movie :p
You're not supposed to think about how creatures on Pandora connect, but why do humans only want to destroy, leach from the nature, take something what isn't theirs!
The whole movie is "not-so-subtle" message packed in amazing visuals!
