1 billion- 63 million

3 million from being number 3 all time worldwide

less than 60 million from being #2 ALL TIME

:lol :lol :lol :lol

That is too funny... I honestly haven't seen any Pocahontas flicks so the the parallels had never been that clear for me until now :lol

That treatment was adjusted to make it closer to Avatar - aside from a man from a civilized world falling for a native woman, the stories aren't that close.

As for PJ and Lovely Bones - I haven't read the book and after seeing the movie I have to guess that there's much more to the book that made it such a desirable property for PJ to adapt. Unfortunately that doesn't really come through in the film.

After this, it will be almost impossible to top himself.
He will have something that will not sit right with audiences or just sucks. I don't want that to happen but it might.
that's exactly what people said after he did titanic. and now, he has another billion dollar grosser under his belt. and given his track record for badass sequels, i'd say he's reserved a nice spot in that top 5 for his avatar sequel.

never bet against the king of the world.

Start living like Neytiri: in touch with nature, the environment, and not being greedy and wasteful. Pass on the burger, for something more healthy for you and less cruel to animals. Spend your time on this forum, or volunteering in your free time, instead of getting high or drinking, twiddling your thumbs, being apathetic and complaining about how bad the world is. Don't get swept away by the wave of negativity, live your dream. Your life has only two switches, to shine or not to shine. There is no "apathy" setting. If you're on apathy setting you might as well sign your world away to destruction. When you get discouraged by everyone around you, be courageous like Jake, and jump on the leonopteryx. Be the change you want to see in your world. There are only so many people on this earth, the more of them that are doing positive things, the less of them that are out there doing negative things. It's unfortunate that we live in a world where, just by pulling a trigger or making a corporate decision, one single greedy human being can wipe out the hard works of love of many people. But this is why we need to stop focusing on money and start focusing on our environment. Because we have the intelligence to kill ourselves, but not the wisdom to stop it. What will our money buy, when everything that is worth having is destroyed? The only way you can fill the emptiness you feel after this movie, is to jump on the leonopteryx.

:pow

I really hate this crap. It is the #1 reason that I have zero desire to see the film.

Re: I saw AVATAR in 3D!

But, unfortunately, I bet we'll get at least one sequel. I've heard it may take place on one of the different moons of Pandora with completely different characters and creatures. That could be interesting, I guess.

Entertainment Weekly has a video interview with Cameron sitting on a couch with Weaver and Zoe Saldana. Zoe mentions the learning curve to acting with just the sensors and no actual camera to which Cameron replies with something to the effect of, "but now think how much easier it'll be next time," implying that she'll be in Avatar 2.

Oh well. The funny thing is I've been put off by almost everything Jim has been attached to since T2 only to be blown away with the finished product. I was annoyed that he didn't direct Alien 3 and thought it was lame that we was instead making an action/comedy. Then I loved True Lies. Then I was annoyed that after a comedy he decided to make a romance epic. And we know how that turned out.

I remember seeing footage of T2:3D or whatever the Universal ride was called and there was a scene where Arnold tells John, "Come on, let's bust a move," which made me wonder if I even wanted him doing sci-fi anymore. :lol

When I read about Avatar in the 90's (only in magazine blurbs, I held off on reading the treatment until just last week) I pictured Pandora to be like LV-426 with apparitions of weird lemur people floating around and one guy puts on a funky helmet and has virtual sex with one. :lol And then it instantly turns out to be one of my favorite films of all time. Go figure.

I suppose its tradition now to wish he'd do something other than an Avatar sequel. And I'm sure he'll blow me away.

Success at what?

Obviously, it has been a financial success. But the true measure of a work of art is never it's commercial value.

'The Lovely Bones' isn't an epic type of film/book (unlike LOTR or King Kong) and it's not a sci-fi story like 'District 9' (since he was a producer I guess we'll pull that one in too), so comparing it to some of the previous films PJ has been involved with is like comparing apples and peanuts. A more apt comparison would be 'Heavenly Creatures', but HC would have been an easier story to film IMO.

I questioned it just because I think it's a lame choice, and usually these "epic" storyteller types of guys, keep on doing that for the most part and not switch gears that easily.

i'm not talking about basic good guy vs bad guy formula. i'm talking about plotpoints that run from a to b to c to d in such a predictable manner.

look, i was one of those poster who actually said every movie borrows from every other movies. i dont mind familiar concept told in a new way. if anyone read my posts before the film's release, actually that was exactly what i was expecting from avatar. but just because the concept/formula is borrowed doesnt mean the story beats have to run exactly the same.

I still think that anyone actually sitting through this movie and having time to analyze the story, or wonder about it's plotpoints when their brains should be on visual sensory overload and a gleeful childlike smile from ear to ear , are just not getting it.

Those people can stick to the other good movies this year that challenge the mind, or have complex plot points or whatever.
Besides Avatar for example, my other fave movies of the year are:
Inglorious Basterds
Moon
District 9
Star Trek
(500) Days of Summer
Up In The Air
To name just a few.

Hey...does anybody know if they are giving Avatar in LA with the D-Boxx seats? I wanted to get my friends some tickets to go see it as a X-mas present....but I wanna see if it's available with those seats?!?!?

We are putting a D-Box seat in our theater room this year!

I hope they enable it on the Avatar Blu-ray. The flying scenes would be sick!!!

Unfortunately that doesn't mean ????. Hollywood is a business and they are in it to make money. The movies that make money will get sequels. Box office is the only way really to determine succuess because it shows that a lo of people went to see it and more importantly they went multiple times because they like it.
