oh well.... IMAX was a disaster for me. Even though we were only very slightly off to the side (which shouldnt matter anyway) the 3D effect kept slipping in and out.... objects or parts of the screen would have two images showing at once, until you moved your head to face them or tilted slightly, then they'd come into focus. This happened a lot. It was instantly clear that the RealD system is a WAY better, and more solid 3D system than IMAX. When it was clear, and when the camera was still... it was astounding. But that wasn't very often.
The immersion was much better, thanks to the big screen (I got the same from the non-3D Star Trek when see on IMAX), but the fast nature of the film (running scenes, dizzying heights, wobbly cameras, fast edits) made it almost unwatchable in parts.
We both had to leave after around half an hour, feeling nauseous, green, dizzy and like we were about to throw up. This lasted for two hours for me until I went to bed.. the only way I could get rid of it. (I felt like I'd been on a kid's roundabout for an hour... or one of those fake hydraulic rollercoaster simulators that always throw your brain off because the timing is never right)
Thankfully we got replacement tickets to see whatever we wanted in the same chain of cinemas (there's one in our city thankfully... as we'd driven for an hour to get to the IMAX).
We'll go see Avatar again of course.. lol. When we saw it the first time in RealD on a 'normal' big screen... it was jaw dropping, and neither of us had any problems. I just wanted to feel the immersion everyone was talking about.
Unfurtunately, all we felt was ill....
