Of all the things that suck about Channing Tatum, you bring up the one thing he is not actually responsible for, his name.

"You don't scare me John."

"Wea you scare mi."

Omg that song is so horrible.:banghead

Darren... make sure you are dead center for the IMAX. I was off to the side a bit and had a lot of trouble with the 3D losing focus, yet no trouble when I saw it later in 3D at a normal theater.

Didnt like the imax experience at all.

Yea going to the theater is actually better.

yeah, I've heard that regular theatre is better/sharper/clearer, but IMAX is more immersive for those people that have no problem with it. I just have to see it on the massive screen before it vanishes to blu-ray.

We're near the back, and only ever so slightly off to the side... largely in the middle. (had to be, as jane felt ill when watching Star Trek in IMAX... so this could cause some trouble. :rotfl). She doesn't like (hates would be a better word) regular coloured carboard glasses style 3D, which I was watching on TV lately. She hated it.. hated the glasses... and said she couldn't see the effect half the time. I never understood it... so I was expecting bad things from Avatar lol

Luckily she said the 3D was fantastic, and said she'd love to see it again. result!

anyway I'll tell you how it goes lol. Seeing it tonight.

oh well.... IMAX was a disaster for me. Even though we were only very slightly off to the side (which shouldnt matter anyway) the 3D effect kept slipping in and out.... objects or parts of the screen would have two images showing at once, until you moved your head to face them or tilted slightly, then they'd come into focus. This happened a lot. It was instantly clear that the RealD system is a WAY better, and more solid 3D system than IMAX. When it was clear, and when the camera was still... it was astounding. But that wasn't very often.

The immersion was much better, thanks to the big screen (I got the same from the non-3D Star Trek when see on IMAX), but the fast nature of the film (running scenes, dizzying heights, wobbly cameras, fast edits) made it almost unwatchable in parts.

We both had to leave after around half an hour, feeling nauseous, green, dizzy and like we were about to throw up. This lasted for two hours for me until I went to bed.. the only way I could get rid of it. (I felt like I'd been on a kid's roundabout for an hour... or one of those fake hydraulic rollercoaster simulators that always throw your brain off because the timing is never right)

Thankfully we got replacement tickets to see whatever we wanted in the same chain of cinemas (there's one in our city thankfully... as we'd driven for an hour to get to the IMAX).

We'll go see Avatar again of course.. lol. When we saw it the first time in RealD on a 'normal' big screen... it was jaw dropping, and neither of us had any problems. I just wanted to feel the immersion everyone was talking about.

Unfurtunately, all we felt was ill.... :lol

I saw Avatar several times, sitting in various parts of the theatre and never had any issues with blurriness or double vision. However, I still think the Real3D was better than IMAX.

I went to see it twice in IMAX , first the 3d didn't work at all and I was off to the side , then I pre booked bang in the centre at the back and it worked amazingly well. I think it all depends on where your sitting with IMAX.

Sorry to hear about your experience Darren... while I didn't get sick, I had the same issue with the split image and difficulty with fast movement.

The one bonus the IMAX was the immersion (the opening sequence when Sully is waking up in zero gravity was particularly impressive) but the rest was better in a normal 3D theater.

yeah that's it. when it worked... and in certain scenes (zero gravity waking up... helicopter flying over landscapes) it was incredible... really made you feel like you were there. (well, apart from the old IMAX screen that had annoying stripes/marks going down it... like it was an old screen that needed replacing. Problem with that is... in 3D... any marks on the screen stand OUT from the action lol.

Ah well, we'll be seeing it again this weekend probably in realD. gotta see it at least one more time before it goes to 2D blu ray.

Honestly, my experience with Avatar in Imax3D has completely turned me off trying it again in the future. I love seeing 2D movies in Imax, but any live action features have always been problematic (previously Superman Returns).

But the one documentary and animated films I've seen have worked much better.

I enjoyed the dark knight in IMAX visually much more than Avatar. I'm not a huge fan of 3d full stop though really. It kind of takes me out of the movie for some reason usually. I might check Avatar out one last time in a closer nearer cinema to see how the 3D is there.
I noticed a few days ago I had the real3d glasses from the cinema in my pocket. :lol I was handed those whilst walking into imax for some reason and never ended up using them after then being handed the massive glasses you have to wear by another person closer to the screen.

I think that the jump to ten Best Picture nominees might hurt Avatar's chances a little, as the hip young votes will be spread out amongst Avatar, District 9, Inglourious Basterds and maybe even UP. The older folks who might want a serious adult drama to win will vote for Hurt Locker or Precious, and it might pull out a win. I definitely think that Hurt Locker will get Best Director, and if District 9 steals enough votes from Avatar, Cameron's film just might lose both the top two spots. But he will still walk away with plenty of the technical Oscars. (And two billion dollars.)
