Palestinian protesters pose as Na'vi from "Avatar"

JERUSALEM – Palestinian protesters have added a colorful twist to demonstrations against Israel's separation barrier, painting themselves blue and posing as characters from the hit film "Avatar."
The demonstrators also donned long hair and loincloths Friday for the weekly protest against the barrier near the village of Bilin.
They equated their struggle to the intergalactic one portrayed in the film.
Israel says the barrier is needed for its security. Palestinians consider it a land grab.
The protests have become a symbol of opposition. They often end in clashes with Israeli security forces involving stones and tear gas.
The "Avatar" protest comes a day after the Israeli government began rerouting the enclosure to eat up less of the Palestinian village.

How was this a hippie movie, it was an action movie this is so wierd.

They apologized to the animals they hunted -- that sounds pretty much like something a hippie would do. They literally worshiped a magic tree -- that sounds pretty much like something a hippie would do. They wore loincloths. The men had ponytails. They "bonded" with animals.

Now that you mention it -- the movie was pretty much a hippie pow-wow ... all that was missing was some douche playing a folk song on an acoustic guitar while a bunch of stoned hippie broads swoon ("I gave my love a cherry ...").

I was joking. And I wasn't calling Avatar a hippie movie, I was calling those protesters hippies. It's just a remark.

I think that the jump to ten Best Picture nominees might hurt Avatar's chances a little, as the hip young votes will be spread out amongst Avatar, District 9, Inglourious Basterds and maybe even UP. The older folks who might want a serious adult drama to win will vote for Hurt Locker or Precious, and it might pull out a win. I definitely think that Hurt Locker will get Best Director, and if District 9 steals enough votes from Avatar, Cameron's film just might lose both the top two spots. But he will still walk away with plenty of the technical Oscars. (And two billion dollars.)

Even though there are 10 nominations for Best Picture, I still think that the five movies associated with the Best Director category are the unofficial "real" Best Picture nominees.

I have seen Avatar tonight and all I can say is "I LOVE AVATAR" And I fell in love WITH NEYRITI . I want a Neyriti premium format

I had never seen a 3D world so real and native 3D characters that seemed to have more feelings than a real character. The best film I have seen in the last years. Thanks Cameron for this story told so beautifully.

I am talking my wife tomorrow for valentines day.
she hasent seen it yet.

I am pumped to see this movie for the 5th time tomorrow.
If I win the lottery tonite I would build my own theater so I could see this movie on 3D forever.

As for watching it 5 times. I have other things that I want to spend my money on. 5 3D movie tickets is half a 1/6 figure!

You obviously dont know what a "hippie" is....so why even comment? Yes. To some degree Avatar is a hippie film. It's somewhat anti military, and about protecting the earth...or pandora in this case.

It's not a bad thing. Cameron wasnt "too" preachy about it. And it's not a terrible message to put out.

Unfortunatlely, I'm taking my GF to see "Valentine's Day", on Valentines Day lol

But nothing wrong with seeing this movie on the big screen before it goes away. I just know it won't be the same on a smaller screen and not 3D. Let's just say I've already got a taste of what that's going to be like. And it ain't the same.
Also this movie is going to finally be my first blu-ray movie. I've waited out this long for something really worth of seeing it the best possible way. This will be my first. It might not be in 3D and on a big screen, but I can at least salvage the picture quality.

Dude its an action movie i dont see a catogorie that says hippie in it. The movie was a nature movie but like I said the navi didnt even act like hippies. omg.

I do have to say...I watched a little of the screener...movie isnt as impressive.

But it could be that it's DVD qaulity. Cant wait for the Blu Ray!

just came back from the movie and my wife loved it.
for me the experience was still amazing.
I was so blown away that it was sold out show.

I cant belive still attracting that many people.

I think this is the finnal time I will see it in the theater.

now the wait for the new 3D TV'S and Blu ray 3D AVATAR begins.
come on HOT TOYS and SIDESHOW we need previews of some collectibles.

Pumped for the oscars.
