I think that will be the crux of this piece. People who aren't big enough fans to buy will like it but not buy while people who are fans won't buy it because it doesn't represent the character well.

I wish Sideshow well, but I really kind of hope this statue tanks in sales. Maybe *that* will be the wake up call that we need a new Jason PF. More likely though, if sales tank they'll just assume there is no support for the character and leave all future Jason projects to Mezco. :monkey4 :monkey2

What a world, what a world... :monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

I totally agree, but at the same time I still do think it has to do with licensing rights I would assume.

I don't necessarily think that's worded right. It's the "big enough" fans who aren't buying it because of the amalgam factor and people who are "ho-hum" about the character are the ones who're liking it and picking this up. And unfortunately, this item tanking in sales wouldn't say, "Hey, we need to stick closer to the source material next time!" but instead have Sideshow saying, "Well, guess there's no interest real in Jason anymore... moving right along." :duh:duh:duh

That's basically what I said. Except I don't think the ho-hums will be buying. They might like it, but they won't buy because "it's not their thing."

That sucks to even hear that Jason is a goner...regardless if this doesnt do well, I hope SS does a little more research into what people want. Im ok with them doing there own thing, but they refereneced FvJ more than anything with this one. Should have just stuck to the classics, but thats been said in this thread about a billion times now...

After a good number of years I can say that, after reading some of the posts in this thread, I finally see what it's like to be on the other side of the fence regarding a particular SS release.

I'm an LOTR fan through and through and I've participated in some threads where many fans were unhappy about the way that a particular character was portrayed. I got a notice about the Jason statue going up for P.O. tomorrow and, after seeing the pics, I flipped over it! That is one of the best sculpts that I've seen of a character (and base) in a while. :monkey5

I will definitely be grabbing one for myself and I'm not even a Jason fan!

Im going to laugh just because I think kabuki is on to something here about all the people who really like it arent even really Jason fans.

That's what I said. Hardcore Jason fans will pass this up because it just isn't Jason whereas the newbs will love it. He said the exact opposite:

Jason has taken out a lot of folks over the years. So maybe this is a collection of those bodies making up the base. He kind of takes no prisoners so I think it fits with that as well. Overall, it looks pretty cool to me.

I think I need to work on my communications skills, cause I said the same thing but it's not getting across for some reason.

Ho-hums will love it, but ho-hums rarely spend $200 on something they aren't a fan of. Hardcores hate it because it doesn't represent the character.

The only part we're disagreeing about is you think the ho-hums will still buy it, while I think/hope they won't (even though they like it). :peace

There's a post right above mine where a "ho-hum" said they're getting it. ;)

I actually think it looks awesome , even though not based on the movies. (stuff like screen acurate doesn't bother me).

That's one. We'll see what happens tonight...

I get what Kabuki and Nam are saying. Its a Jason statue that doesnt really represent Jason in his true form enough for the hardcore fans to care about. While the "ho hums" think he looks awesome yet dont really know any better what is accurate or not they just think it looks awesome so its hit or miss if they are going to pick it up, while hardcores are going to avoid it totally. I think that might sum it up...or maybe cause more confusion.
