Jaw Surgery on my Birthday

I mentioned this in the Hot Toys Pirates thread, but I thought I'd "officially" mention this.

June 2nd is my 20th Birthday and also the day I go in for jaw surgery. Great way to spend a birthday huh?

I have a bad underbite that is being corrected by moving my upper jaw forward. Not fun, but my Orthodontist feels it will be worth it in the long run since without it, my teeth would wear abnormally and would possibly eventually need to be taken out.

So I get to be on a liquid diet for a month with my jaw "wired" shut, and then a few months on "soft" foods. So hopefully in the end I'll have a better smile and a smaller gut.

I don't intent on this being a "pity" thread, but some of you, like Captain Faramir, have shown some honest interest in this, so I thought I could elaborate a bit.

But I do plan on being recovered enough to go to SDCC again this year

Wow man... I'm sorry to hear about this. I hope everything works out, my thoughts are with you dude. At least it is for a good cause, should help you in the long run. But the next few weeks are going to be Hell.

But thanks for all of the comments so far. I'll probably be around here even more often since I can't really do anything for a good 2 weeks or so. Might even get some customs worked on.

Best of luck to you! I had jaw surgery when I was 19. I had a slight overbite though, so it was actually a much different procedure. (they sliced my lower jaw to pull the teeth back about 1/8 of an inch) I hope it goes VERY well for you. I had a really fast recovery, with no pain whatsoever....

oh, and be careful with the pain meds. the diet change mixed with the pain meds can reaaaalllllllyyyy bind you up.

Again, I wish you the best! The funnest part is the swelling. I looked like Hitchcock after my surgery, it was crazy cool!!! like prosthetic make-up...

Ah, yes the swelling. The doctor who is doing the surgery also removed my wisdom teeth a few years ago, and the swelling from that was funny. Can't wait to see what this will do

At first he wasn't sure if they would move the upper jaw forward, or the lower jaw back, or a combo of both (he still may change his mind ). But the upper jaw only is a much easier recovery process as the upper jaw doesn't tend to want to hang open like the lower jaw.

And Yes I will be careful with the medication! Ever since Heath Ledger's OD, I've been a lot more carefully with everything I take, and I was careful before even!

I think my Mom plans on doing some "before and after" pictures, so if they aren't too imbarassing, I'll post them.

I had thought about that. The doc says that everything will be done in the mouth, so I won't have the most realistic Joker scars at SDCC

Drugs do NOT aid in the creative process, but they do make you more interesting, funnier, more handsome, stronger, put hair on your chest, give you bulging biceps and 6-pack abs, and thicken manly moustaches, all of which will help get you laid....but be careful with them!

Don't worry dude, I'm sure you'll recover quickly. I'll go up to the Hospital with something to cheer you up, so no worries. Your Birthday won't be totally miserable, not if I can help it.

That's one of the best things about living near a fellow freak: you can actually drop by to do something helpful for them when they really need it.
