Jaw Surgery on my Birthday

I mentioned this in the Hot Toys Pirates thread, but I thought I'd "officially" mention this.

June 2nd is my 20th Birthday and also the day I go in for jaw surgery. Great way to spend a birthday huh? :sick

I have a bad underbite that is being corrected by moving my upper jaw forward. Not fun, but my Orthodontist feels it will be worth it in the long run since without it, my teeth would wear abnormally and would possibly eventually need to be taken out.

So I get to be on a liquid diet for a month with my jaw "wired" shut, and then a few months on "soft" foods. So hopefully in the end I'll have a better smile and a smaller gut.

I don't intent on this being a "pity" thread, but some of you, like Captain Faramir, have shown some honest interest in this, so I thought I could elaborate a bit.

But I do plan on being recovered enough to go to SDCC again this year :rock

I too had an underbite and underwent maxiofacial surgery (I think that's what they call it), I had an underbite, so they removed my lower jaw, sawed it down, moved my upper jaw forward a little bit and then put the lower jaw back on) Seems like the same thing you're going to have. Not going to lie, I've never been in so much pain in my entire life, I can't even describe it. BUT, on the plus side, once it's over, you'll have 100% happy that you did it. Don't know about you, but I was in so much pain, vicodin didn't work for me, I had a straight up morphine drip, now THAT was awesome.

I'll try to remember some things to avoid when you're in recovery. DO NOT DO ANYTHING THAT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH. It sounds stupid, but whenever I laugh, it felt like my stiches were tearing and someone was ripping my head apart. So don't do that. I'll try to think of something else.

Don't worry dude, I'm sure you'll recover quickly. I'll go up to the Hospital with something to cheer you up, so no worries. Your Birthday won't be totally miserable, not if I can help it.

That's one of the best things about living near a fellow freak: you can actually drop by to do something helpful for them when they really need it.

Funny you mention that, a little off topic, but I went down to the street that Pitu works at and he said $50 for the usuall, but I decided to pay $55, you know, for a little tip.

Good luck Buttmunch, I wish you a quick recovery. I hope someone can get your Davy Jones for you and bring him to visit you in the hospital.

Crap, Batty beat me to it! Now wtf am I supposed to post? :idea

Hope your jaw stays attached and your skin doesn't turn green?

:lol

Good luck man!

:rotfl Perfect example I think. That would be a funny gift for the Doctor. "Don't make me look like this!" :lol

I'm hoping! UPS will except a signed door tag right? Otherwise everyone that would be able to sign for it is going to be at the hospital with me. :sick

Wow! Sounds like you had the super-duty-aweful-both-jaws version. Hopefully it won't be as bad though. Luckily I seem to do fine with any sort of drugs, so hopefully I won't need a morphine drip after I leave the hospital.

I . . . I don't want to know what that means . . . :monkey4
Yes you do.....Yes you do....Yes you do....

Yea, the drugs felt nice, had a chipmunk face for a couple of months, but it was 150% worth it in the end. I have some portions of my face that have no feeling, apparently they have to move the nerve in your face to do jaw surgery and sometimes you lose feeling, but I would do it over again.

I dunno, last time I missed a delivery they checked that it had to be signed for in person. But it never hurts to try, maybe you'll get a driver who disregards rules. Or maybe a neighbor? If not at least you will have something extra special to look forward to when you get home.

I didn't see a birthday thread, so I wanted to start one for you. Good thing I saw this thread. So happy birthday man!!!!:chew

Good luck with the surgery, look forward to reading your posts again afterwards.

When you go in for it, I hope and pray for a speedy recovery.

And every time it hurts just think "Its not testicular surgery".

Best of luck to you Buttmunch! Hope its a good and speedy recovery! :)
