Time to unearth this old project!
Here's where I left the scabbard many weeks ago:

Here is the scabbard as it stands, ready to be cured. I ended up removing the old clay and starting over since it seemed brittle and dried out. I moved some stuff around after taking this photo.

FUDGE!! Didn't work!!! Going to have to try to create the sheath out of balsa since it warped in the oven when I baked it in two pieces. Going to see if I can salvage the top of the sheath---plucking it off and gluing it down on balsa.

Jessica, have you used the milliput? I think is great because gives you many time for modelling before it dries. With milliput you will not have this problem

Good work ;)

First the good news! It's so beautiful!!!

Now the bad news. It looks like crap from the side:
dsc02277a.jpg

The new way I'm going to make one will be better than this. I didn't really know what I was doing and used clay for the body of the sheath. I will go with balsa wood, and it will lie as straight and true as the sword.

Even if I have to resculpt the top of the sheath, no biggie. This was just practice. The goal is to get better and better.

Just another day in the life of an animal psychologist...October 30, 2009. I suppose I am my own custom.

These are my favorite pair of boots only because they look so nice with the ape gear.

These are great! What kind of reactions do you get from other people in situations like this? I'd want my photo taken with you!

Thanks, Cloud. It's fun to take photos with people while in costume. They are usually very shocked. I see a lot of open mouths when I am behind the wheel--lots of double-takes. I wish I could wear ape gear all the time--but it's tough because I only take in liquid nutrition for the day because I have to black out my teeth and don't want to have to touch up. Anyway, that guy behind me in the second photo took a picture of me with his cell phone. He couldn't believe it. Lots of cell phone photos were taken of me that day. This was the first time that my mom saw first hand the commotion I cause when in ape gear. I made my mom take photos of me gassing up because it's too surreal.

Jess, I think that this is the perfect sculpt of dodge and would really love to own it! I would only need to find someone to paint it though. Your talent really shines here! (Perfect):monkey5

Some fun photos. Need to get cracking again on sculpting. I will start again in a few days.

Fire Genasi. I used glow in the dark powder for his irises and also on his fiery hair and eyebrows. He looks so cool when he's glowing in the dark. Too bad effing imageshack is having problems timing out. The first photo is the photo I took of him in the dark...but right now it's not showing up.

She looks cool. I didn't know the character. This reminds me the link sculpt. I would like to try the link headsculpt, one of my favorites characters. :)

Been busy working on Burke again. I am finally happy this time. I can't wait to see him painted. I had to completely resculpt him to make sure the size of his head was proportional to the Sideshow body. The first one was too small and it was most obvious as soon as I put clothes on him. The shoulders of the Sideshow body are deceptively wide. 2nd photo is a little dusty around the neck area because I didn't brush off everything that I dremeled.

I'm going to kickstart the Link project again. It's time to revisit this guy and make sure he gets done. I'll post photos later of what I've accomplished today.

Very cool. You ever do any commission work, Jessica?

Damned scabbard had me stumped, Lord V! Anyway, I've been mulling it over for months now, so I have decided to go with balsa wood again.

This is how the sword fits in the scabbard, nice and snug and no play:
dsc03620w.jpg

The 3D filigree on the top of the sword gives raises the level of difficulty for me and I had to fudge with the balsa which was already pretty thin to begin with:
dsc03621n.jpg

I glued the scabbard together but decided to slice it down the middle so it's easier to make molds/casts:
dsc03623t.jpg

I was busy playing/posing one of my figures...and forgot to keep a closer look at the scabbard in the toaster oven. It's burned, but at least the design is still there. Cooling off at the moment. Tomorrow I will see what type of damage has been done. I think for the most part it's good--just looks horrifically ugly:
dsc03625c.jpg

Oh...and it was REAL hard making the clay behave because it refused to stay put on the balsa. I can't wait to glue it down after it's cooled off, so I can finish the design on the bottom portion of what I have pictured above.

Yes, I do, depending if I could do the work or not.

That looks awesome. Much respect. Don't think I'd have the patience.

Jessica, right now I need a decent untied bow tie for my Daniel Craig Bond I just put together. Got him posted on page 4 in my customs thread: https://sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68406&page=4. Used a ribbon and tried cutting it to shape, but didn't have much luck. Here's what I was going for: https://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s245/blackrider9/CasinoRoyale/casino-royale1.jpg.

Think you could tackle it? Thanks.

Have you tried cutting the shape out of the thin plastic that covers binders? I know it's not cloth...but it may work. Did you try to draw the outline with fraycheck on lining, let it dry...and then cut the shape?

If I can manage to find my fraycheck, I have some material that I can try this with and I'll post it for you to see if that's what you needed.
