Have you opened it yet...have you opened it yet? LOL. Just kidding. No rush. Great idea to wait until you've got some proper time to absorb it all!

These two photos show how a collector improved the appearance even more by putting the hair covering the tops of his ears. I don't know why JND did it like they have with the tops of his ears being fully exposed. This looks SO much better.
That's my figure, thanks for commenting on the hairstyle improvement.

My replacement arrived a day early 😀. Definitely my favorite statue. Glad to have it back again 🙌. View attachment 739444

Thank you!

As for the display case. I bought a glass curio cabinet on Amazon and did simple modifications to it. I glued the glass together using UV glue. Then I widened the grooves a bit on the top & bottom of the wood bases where the glass sits using a routing bit tool and my dremmel. As for the pedestal, I ordered that online. View attachment 739616
Not sure if you wanted to know all that😅 but It was just a simple DIY glass display case idea i wanted to try which turned out well, IMO.
So I found the cabinet on Amazon, it's about $114-116. It seems to have black pieces that connect the top and bottom at the corners. Also there are black pieces that cross the side glass panels, but yours seems all clear? No obstructions. It's like you just have the top and bottom, 3 glass panels, and a door.
That is a great cabinet for a single statue. It would be cool if there was one same height, but double the width with 2 doors to house the duo sets.

They're here!

Well, I am now a believer of the people who say "it needs to be seen in person" because my god, it is SO much better in person than it appears in the photos. I took lots of photos and none of them really came out looking like it does in person.

My initial thoughts:
  • Clark's sculpt is superior. I see NO downgrade in what was shown at the proto stage. It's phenomenally good.
  • Clark's suit and all his accessories are sublimely good. I see no issues with the fit of the suit AT ALL. It's staggeringly well tailored.
  • Superman's head is undoubtedly either TOO SMALL or his upper body / shoulders are too big. Now that I've got it in hand, it's clear as day. From certain angles it looks "silly small" compared to the body it's on. I find the likeness on Superman looks best when you are looking at it closely and from slightly below his eye level. It looks superb from that sort of viewing angle. Putting spotlights angled down don't do him too many favors. I thought he looked best in natural daylight, but I won't be exposing him to that too often!
  • Superman's costume colour (the blue in particular) is practically indistinguishable from the color of the actual costume fabric. This is an absolute win by JND as NO other company has EVER captured the correct color in either fabric or paint. When I opened the box and revealed the statue and saw the color - a massive smile appeared on my face. It's awesome.
  • Cape needs to be changed. the way they tucked it into the neck line all the way around is just wrong. Luckily, my new custom cape has just been shipped, so I will be able to replace that over the holidays.
  • There is so much lacquer in the hair that it may as well have been sculpted. It feels like plastic!
  • Belt should be more glossy.
  • Sculpted detail of the Superman suit is absolutely outstanding. Even at very close viewing distance, it looks like real fabric. The weave texture and tiny "stitches" are perfect. The detailing on the boots and the sculpted stitching line on them are also perfect.
I popped my Prime1 '89 Batman onto the base and was pleased to see that Prime 1 didn't "lie" about Keaton's height. They've captured his height very accurately and as you can see, Reeve was a lot taller than Keaton.

These are my first two JND statues. I am incredibly impressed with the sheer quality of them from the box to the statue itself. I am now more confident about Indiana Jones looking better in person as I say again what others have said - these statues are INCREDIBLY difficult to capture correctly in photos, but they REALLY shine when viewing them in person.

That's why I UV glued the glass panels together to avoid using the black wood frame pieces🙂. There are 2 door versions of this cabinet available as well which are frameless the main difference are those pre-drilled glass holes where the metal pegs go to support the inside glass shelves which I personally don't like the look of 🫤.

If I had the duo set i would've definitely gotten two of the single curio cabinets and customized them also. Not too difficult to be honest🙂.

Another photo taken with my wife's phone camera which is a bit better than mine. Still doesn't come close to capturing how realistic these look in person though.

Glad to see you’re happy with them @cking

I really like the Keaton and Reeve stood together on the same base, unfortunate that it says Superman on it. Does it also say it on the back?

I like the idea of giving each one their own uniform base with unique base top reflective of the character stood on it opposed to the Prime 1 base or dual JND base.

Good to finally hear your thoughts on this @cking and welcome to the "JND Statues look better in hand" club :lol :duff

Looking forward to seeing what the new cape looks like on the statue. Any chance you could share who made it? I know Stewart never replied to me when I gave him your contact info, so not sure if he ever reached out to you or if you found someone else.

That Stewart guy never responded to any requests that were sent so I guess he's not really into doing a run of them. I ended up asking the people who did the 1/3 cape for Bob Causey's statue that I costume directed for him. I'll show some photos of it when it gets here (FedEx scheduled delivery is Christmas Eve).
Not too sure if they are going to be interested in doing a run of them because it's quite time consuming for them and they generally work on 1:1 costumes.

Cool! No worries if they aren’t interested. I would imagine it’s fairly expensive as well even if it’s worth it.

Still, can’t wait to see the difference the new cape makes! Congrats!

@cking one of us, one of us!

Welcome to the club of buying statues that are **** and we only pretend are good because we spent lots of money on them!
Erm...I'm not pretending. These two statues look far better in hand than any photo I've seen of them to date. I tried to take photos of them that look as good as they appear in person and I just gave up in the end as the majority of my photos made them look awful. LOL

I know, I've seen your critique of Indiana Jones, I feel like you'd be honest if you didn't like them.

And yeah, it's incredibly hard to get a good photo of them. Camera phones I feel don't really suit them, you'd need a proper camera without fake lighting. But happy you're enjoying them!

It's nice to have more positivity with discussion of JND seeing as it's mostly made negative by people that don't or won't buy the products being the most vocal.

Yes, I don't hold back if I see something I wish could be improved. Of all the criticism I've made of the Clark and Superman, the only things remaining in my "wish they would have fixed it" observations would be the fact that Superman's head appears to be too small (or his upper body / shoulders too big) and the cape is inaccurately fixed into the neck line of the tunic all the way around. I've got the cape issues sorted out by getting an accurate custom cape made for it, but there's nothing I can do about the head size. It's fine from a lot of angles - just some angles where it appears to look too small. I can't see anything that I'd change on Clark. It's fantastic.

Here's the custom cape. This is an exact 1/3 scale reduction of measurements taken from several full size original Chris Reeve capes. It's nice to see that it fits so well onto the JND.

I don’t ever remember the cape riding up so high on the back of reeves neck, thought the Jnd was accurate

JND's isn't accurate., They've got it tucked into the tunic collar all the way around. I need to pull the front parts of the cape further apart (where they tuck into the tunic) which will allow the back of the cape to hang a little lower, but this is an exact scaled down version of measurements taken from several screen worn Reeve capes.
