Is it me or is no job these day safe ? I have been with my company for 16 yrs and I have not got the boot but I can see the writing on the wall.

How safe is your job and how long have you been at it ?

Should you leave, would you make less or more ?

Scary times these days

May I ask why you feel that you see this "writing on the wall"?

I'm not sure where you work, or the position you have but I used to work in the corporate financial world for five years. The most important lesson I learned throughout my employment was "Nobody has ANY loyalty towards you..."

But yup, scary times indeed... I'm hoping the economy shapes up in the next year or two when I finish school

I work for an internet insurance firm and we have offices around the country . My office happens to be in SF,CA which is one of the highest cost of living area in the nation.

With many of our positions going to the other office where we pay 30% less, yes the writing is on the wall.

It's a good thing I'm relatively good at what I do, or I'd be even more paranoid than I already am.

My boss came to see me today while I was eating lunch with friends, to ask me to see him in private when I was done. Immediately I think, "Oh ____, hope its not about my internet usage (cause that's all I really do that could get me in trouble, thank you SSF site), if they fire me, they're ___t," but it turns out it was just to give one of my reports a promo that I've been fighting for him for a little while now.

The job market sucks. Many college grads can't find work, and this is across many industries. My company isn't hiring all that much anymore. Everyone is having to deal with a much leaner workforce.

When I first started my career some 10+ years ago, I used to think I had a right to complain about work and my job. Now I'm just glad to have one. My last pay raise was around 1%. I didn't say squat. 5 years ago I would have thrown a fit.

No raises for 3 years, ot cut & furloughs last year. Still glad to work full time with benifits. 10 years ago when I started there were 48 employees. Now there are 10 of us.

A city near me just disbanded their entire police force and now relies solely on the county Sheriff.

Two years ago the company i work for employed 199 people. Today..we are 25.

We went from about 250 a year ago to 40 now with the hopefully last bach leaving yesterday. Thankfully I am going into work today.

Halleluja Europe!

Unless you live in Greece.

Job security plus, if you get fired, you still get paid the same amount until you find work! :clap

Wonder how long that will last till you have a bunch of unemployed people and the economy completely implodes. But who am I too criticize? The US just extended unemployment to 99 weeks. Many people can make more money receiving unemployment than they can by working at a minimum wage fast food joint. Really motivates your work force, eh?

I have a friend who has been unemployed forever, and works freelance side jobs for cash. He's making more money than he ever has before. God Bless America! I guess....He's not looking for work anytime soon.
