Northern Texas now too, huh? Stay safe you guys.
Living in earthquake country here, I've learned the most important things to safeguard: People, pets, and pictures. And it looks like another batch of Severe T'storms/Tornados are headed our way tonight. We here just west of Kansas City managed to dodge Saturday night's mess but wonder if we're gonna be so lucky tonight.
(am already moving some of my valuables into the basement as I speak).
The April 25–28, 2011 tornado outbreak may have broken the Super Outbreak's record. NOAA reports that the outbreak produced approximately 305 tornadoes, with 190 of those in a single 24-hour period. 340 deaths have occurred in that same 24-hour time period. The outbreak has also helped smash the record for most tornadoes in the month of April with around 600 tornadoes, more than double the prior record (267 in April of 1974). The overall record for a single month was 542 in May of 2003, which may also be broken.
The Tri-State Tornado of March 18, 1925 killed 695 people in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. The outbreak it occurred with was also the deadliest known tornado outbreak, with a combined death toll of 747 across the Mississippi River Valley
Wondeful tornado sirens going off here in town. Got pets moved to basement pretty quickly.
Gonna try. Dad is at work down at the fire station and mom is at work as well. I'm here all by myself with the zoo.
I imagine that your menagerie were really glad to have a human member of the family there to keep them calm and safe
Glad you are as well. It's been a heck of a 3-4 days. Not anywhere as bad as Joplin, but still stressful waiting out one destructive cell after another without much letup in between. I HATE May here!
I'm so sorry to hear what you all are going through. Please keep us updated. Stay safe.
