Based on that ES, I don't see a very bright fiture for the JP line, which saddens me, because I was really looking forward to it. I hope I'm wrong and it becomes a success, so that we can get more dioaramas and maquettes.

I'm quite pleased with the exclusive edition size, and I remain optimistic about the future of the line, considering that Jurassic Park fans are largely overwhelmingly pleased with the piece, and the widely-lauded JAWS exclusive maquette was an ES of 500. I'd say things look good.

got on the waiting list for the Exclusive statute. Good thing i dont have to poay for it tho, that honor falls to my dad...he seems to really love it...:D

Show him the Samaritan & Iron Man 1:1 helmet maybe he'll take a liking to them too.:D

This is a beautifully done diorama and an absolutely amazing sculpt of "a" T-Rex, but definitely not "the" T-Rex and Raptor in the Jurassic Park. Those are a look alike, period. Cool piece though.

Why is it not accurate? Where's the inaccuraty? Play the movie and watch it for 1000 times more, then, you probably can see what the thing looks like, or maybe not..:D

Not the best maquette; there's something about the lower jaw on this one that makes it look unhinged, and a bit unlike the other JP T.rex maquettes I've seen. I hope against hope that we do get a quality maquette eventually. However, before you deem the piece a look-alike, I suggest you take a peek at the production blog to see the care and detail that went into creating it, specifically the careful references to conceptual work and the SWS animatronic animals.

That's the thing for me. I'd love to see all the reference from Stan that they went off of. I'll try to dig out my old trading card set from JP, but I remember how some images showed the animatronic Rex was somewhat different in color from the CGI, but then it was only used in the night scenes so the lighting changed it's look anyway. All the daylight shots of the Rex were pure CG and being new at the time, I'm sure color matching and rendering wasn't to the level it is today.

Yeah, I did read the production blog, and way more info before since the movie came out.

Not the best maquette? LOL. That's just a quick pic someone took at ILM. What can you really see but to know that IS the T-Rex from JP? I can show you at least 5 different looks of the T-Rex(maquette/animatronic, not CG), they all looks slightly different form one and another, but they are all bonafide SWS T-Rex and either one will make us very happy if we ever get one. I own 2 pieces of the SWS T-Rex, one is the full size bronze version(the one on the left hand side in your sig, you do know that back story of that one, right?) and the other is the 1/5 scale bust. I'd gladly exchange them for the one I posted above. Are the ones I own the best looking version? Well hell yeah, becasue they all came from SWS.

Yeah, hopefully we'll get something that's "right" soon.

Btw, which one is the best looking T-Rex for you?

Something like these? The color of the pic is off though. If yes, the SS dio version doesn't look like that and that's just the head, the rest of the body is off too.

Both of those photos really make the unhinged jaw on this one apparent, not very sightly.

Yeah, that doesn't change its authenticity and accuracy at all. :)

There are tons of great JP female T-Rex reference pics on the net. That is just one of them. If you've seen them all and know'em very well then you should be able to spot the not on the SS dio easily, but if you just can't see the differences, that's cool. It's one cool piece never the less.

My thoughts exactly. While it may be one of the reference maquettes, I wouldn't exchange either the bust or the bronze statue that you alluded to above. Simply because, while it may be one of the official maquettes, the mandible is far too pronounced, making it appear (as MaulFan and I have already said) unhinged. The posterior end of the mandible should be raised. That, and while I know this is trivial, the blank gaze on the one you posted isn't doing anything for me. It looks like it's just been shot with a heavy tranquilizer.

If that picture frame on the wall is a standard size, I'd say the Rex is like 1/2, 1/3 scale, about 5-6' tall, and I believe the film Rex was like 15' tall.

Yep, the T.rex was 15' at the hips, and 18' at the top of the highest cervical vertebrae. I'd say the estimated scale for the maquette is pretty spot on at 1/3 scale.

The Winston Effect is a magnificent book, and invaluable for insight on all of SWS creatures, not just the JP dinos. For more info on the JP dinos you can also look into the Judy Duncan books for The Making of JP and TLW. All three books I can't recommend highly enough.

Funny you should say that. There was no 1/3 scale T-Rex ever created at SWS from what I have read. It's either smaller scale, 1/5 scale or life size. The pics in the books are pretty, arn't they.:D
