I remember Carpenter actually describing Escape from L.A. as a remake of Escape from New York.

The sequel was aweful but Escape from NY is an absolute classic, there is no need to remake this movie . . . its a terrible idea.

Plissken is one of my alltime favourite characters and I am a huge Kurt Russel fan so hearing rumors of a remake makes me angry!!
 
It will end when they attempt a Highlander remake!!

I will burn Hollywood to the ground!!!
 
Logan's run could use a remake - loved it as a kid, but it sure is dated now.

I just watched it a few months ago. The look of the movie may be a little dated, but I think overall it still holds up pretty well. And I love Jerry Goldsmith's score.

I'm just tired of remakes. And I'm apprehensive because they're using a director who's only experience is directing commercials.

Still waiting for the Soylent Green remake--a notable omission from all of these 70's sci-fi remakes...

I really hope they don't remake Soylent Green. Heston was great in that. And how could anyone top one of the most classic lines in movie history?
 
I think a lot of movies can feel dated, but at the same time that doesn't mean they are in need of a crummy remake. In essence it really doesn't matter what the remake or don't,but its still bothersome that these are treated more as a quick buck that a serious project.
 
Butler Won't Escape From New York

Gerard Butler has exited Escape From New York, the remake of the John Carpenter film at New Line.

Right after his turn as the Spartan in 300, Butler made a deal to play Snake Plissken. He left for creative differences.

New Line has brought Jonathan Mostow in to rewrite, with an option to direct
