Puny kong lets humans capture him with chains. lol how'd you expect to fight the king of the monsters if you still let humans trump you.

Re: Kong: Skull Island

Legendary is building a MonsterVerse like the MCU and DCCU, with one of the big connections across films being the agency Monarch who researches into these large creatures and John Goodman's character references the 1954 nuclear tests which were established in Godzilla as a cover for trying to kill him.

Re: Kong: Skull Island

Granted Kong and Godzilla will meet eventually, but Legendary seems to be taking a lesson from how MCU phase 1 used SHIELD as the main connection through all the individual character films before Avengers by using Monarch.

Re: Kong: Skull Island

This movie takes place in the 70's right? Meaning that the Kong vs G movie will take place almost 50 years after the events of Skull Island. There's a chance Kong will be double the size he is in this movie or there will be an army of apes to take on G.

Re: Kong: Skull Island

Sooooooo all this shared universe stuff. I hope people who do this stuff realize that marvel is supposed to be a shared universe from the get go so it works just fine.

With Godzilla and kong .... well they only met for like one movie and Godzilla pretty much doesn't really really have any other monsters to cross over with all the things he fights are in his universe already. It'll still work tho.

I'm not sure about universal. Yea it's a good idea but still.

Re: Kong: Skull Island

I think this will work fine, the idea is that there are ancient species of animals still alive on earth that for various reasons have gone unnoticed, Godzilla never showed himself until a nuclear sub caught his attention and then he stayed away for another 60 years until his mortal enemies resurfaced in the world.

Kong and his creatures reside on an island that looks like has been visited a number of times but to the ill fate of those who got there. One shot shows and old sail boat wreckage.

Re: Kong: Skull Island

I bet Legendary will do much better than Universal monster connected universe.

I feel the same way. A shared universe with Kong and Godzilla is much more interesting and has more potential for some awesome **** later on.

I don't know how it's going to work for Universal. Are the Mummy and Dracula going to square up and later join forces to face Frankenstein? Or will it be as simple as characters being referenced across films?

Either way, expect a Monsters initiative to be set up in one or the other. :lol

Well, It's always sort of been a thing with these Kaiju movies, Godzilla specifically. Toho films have more or less, been a "shared universe" for a while. Baragon, Mothra, Varan etc... all had their own movies before they joined Godzilla in a film. Even Gorosaurus fought King Kong before he jumped into Destroy All Monsters. So it's not without precedence. Yes Marvel made it a little more relevant these days, and I'm sure Legendary made the decision based heavily on how successful marvel has been...but eh...If it works it works, ya know? Besides...the more monster punching monster action the better :lol
