While it is always sad to hear the news of anyone's passing, rarely do celebrity deaths have much of an impact on me. But this one is a real gut punch. Just as DeForest Kelley's passing many years ago was, as well.
Some people, even though we will never know them personally, just feel woven into the fabric of our lives, and when they go the loss is as surely felt as if you had lost a friend. And that's what Leonard Nimoy's passing is to me. It is a loss that I am truly, genuinely, and deeply saddened by.
I said something similar to my dad a bit ago. I grew up with Star Trek and Mr. Spock in re runs since I was born basically and my dad and I saw every Star Trek movie in the theater together. Leonard Nimoy, while an actor I never knew, feels like a friend since I've followed him for 42 years. I don't generally get saddened by celebrity deaths, but Star Trek is such a huge bond with my dad that this one stinks.
