I'm going to say this one more time - no, I'm sure I'll have to say it a million more times.

THIS IS NOT A REMAKE. There is a book that the original movie was based on that this movie is also based on. That makes this another adaptation of the novel, not a remake of the film. In fact, the deal for this film was signed before the first film was even finished.

While I enjoyed the first film, I felt that it lost much of the best parts of the novel. I'm hoping we get some of that back here, dropping some of the threads (like the boy's dad) that never went anywhere in the first flick anyway. I see a lot more of that here, like the school fire and even the morse code, that looks like this stays very true to the book. The first movie did as well, but the simple fact of the matter is that a novel has far too much content to have it all contained within a single film. What thread gets followed and which ones fall out is the job of the screen writer - and it's a tricky one, that's for sure.

Agree 100%. Although I felt the first film adaptation was quite good, I also felt it missed the mark where the overall story is concerned. Some plot cuts and additions just plain baffled me. I'm hoping this newest film adaptation will actually keep much of the actual story/events of Eli and Håkan from the book in tact this time.

Pretty sure they are taking that part out for the American audience.

pedo-bear alert for this american version perhaps. :lol
i'm sure a lot of guys are waiting for hit girl to reach 18...but i'm guessing she'll have some semi-erotic scenes in this one. kids nowadays, huh.:monkey3

Elias Koteas is a great actor. He really came a long way from the Turtles and is very underrated. It's great to see him getting so much work.

Pretty sure they are taking that part out for the American audience.

While born a boy, the vamp isn't really either - that's sort of the point. And they pretty much left it out of the EUropean flick, as far as that goes. I actually expect that it will be more obviously introduced in this version, with less ambiguity.

I don't think anyone could forget the scar crotch scene in the original.

I can't find it right now, but this isn't the first thread about this movie.

In the other thread I posted a quote about how the US version would leave that part of the story out.

Before the release of Let the Right One In took place, Cloverfield director Matt Reeves had signed to write and direct an English-language version for Overture Films and Hammer Films. Hammer Films acquired the rights at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival and Overture films plans to release the film in 2010. Alfredson has expressed unhappiness about the idea of a remake, saying that "Remakes should be made of movies that aren't very good, that gives you the chance to fix whatever has gone wrong" and expressing concern that the end result would be too mainstream. Lindqvist, in contrast, says that Reeves "will make a new film based on the book, and not remake the Swedish film" and so "it'll be something completely different, but it's going to be really interesting to see." According to Hammer Films producer Simon Oakes, who referred to the project as a remake of the film and not an adaptation of the novel, the adaptation will stay relatively close to the original, except that it will be made "very accessible to a wider audience". The film will also omit the subplot involving Eli's ambiguous gender.

Translation: "we're gonna dumb it down for Americans."

In Matt Reeves' defense he does say: "I can understand because of people's love of the [original] film that there's this cynicism that I'll come in and trash it, when in fact I have nothing but respect for the film. I'm so drawn to it for personal and not mercenary reasons ... I hope people give us a chance."

I'll probably watch it. Although I like the original title a lot better.

loved the first one and this one looks just as promising... looking forward to it!

yeah I thought the original was really good and I have to say this looks pretty damn good as well.

Saw this awesome poster for this at the theater today. Can't wait to see this version, looks wicked.

The special effects in the latest trailer look so horrible. I'm not sure why they felt the need to add special effects in the first place.

All effects look terrible in the trailers. I wouldnt worry.

And why? Who knows. It could be unnessesary...or it could be very nessesary. We'll see?
