Something in another thread brought this subject back to the forefront of my mind; I've often thought about this and just wondered if others do as well. What is "this"? Well, I find myself questioning how everything began; and when I say "how everything began", I'm not really talking about the creation of the Universe, but all the "firsts" in the world!

For example, who was the first person to take some beans from a tree, decide to roast them, then decide to grind them, and finally, if that wasn't enough, decided to brew them in hot water and then have the courage to drink the first cup of coffee! And why?

Who decided it was a good idea to take perfectly good flour used for making bread (and who figured that one out!) and add some egg, milk and sugar and bake it to make a cake? And then, decided it needed a topping!

Why is the vast majority of the world's meat supply from only five animal families (cows, pigs, sheep, chickens and fish)??? Why not sparrows, foxes, lizards, elephants, tigers and zebras??? Did early man actually taste every animal on Earth and decided only a few tasted good?

In nature, bright colors tend to be a warning sign to stay away; flora and fauna that is poisonous. So who was the first soul brave enough to take a bite out of a bright red, big and round tomato??? And why aren't tomatoes found in the wild more? Birds like them; they should be abundant!

Who was the first person to write a word? Why did they do it? How did they do it? Were they burned at the stake for being a witch???

In the following sentence... "Billy read his red book yesterday, but Sally will read it today."... why are there two words that are spelled differently and mean different things, but sound the same??? And why are there two forms of the same word, present tense and past tense, pronounced differently, but still spelled the same???!!! (This one really bothers me!!!)

And for my final example... Why is Subject 805 greenish-brown? Who was the first person at Sideshow that said, "Hey, I know! Let's make him green!"? And why was it accepted and approved??

Does anyone else think about questions like this, or am I just too curious??? And if you don't think about questions like this, why not???

And finally, to wrap up this topic, 42!

No, my mind is just always thinking about things like this! That's why I love the Discovery Channel, Science Channel and similar networks! :D

Love those channels! :rock Lots of cool stuff on there. Did you catch the 20/20 episode the other night about how we could live longer due to stem cells? It was really cool!

Missed that one, but usually watch those kind of shows! Loved the recent "The Body Human" (I think that was it's name) series! The series on Time was great! It seems that time really does speed up as we get older!!! :D

There are other people thinking about the same things, like me, usually when I'm high ... :D

But seriously.

The answer to all those questions (except the Sideshow one) is very, very easy.

It's simply because of evolution.

Things start fairly easy, someone tries something (sometimes by accident, sometimes not) and they built on from that point. It's so with human behavior, with animal behavior, ...

Yes, but why did that person try something for the first time? Hunger? Fear? Curiosity? Instinct?

Like you say, all of those things.

Some things happen by accident, sometimes people/animals try something because of the things you mention.

Sometimes also because of stupidity :D

Have you for example never tasted something you shouldn't have ?

Back then people were not afraid to be curious. Today, from the time we are born to the time we die we are programmed not to be curious for fear of harm. Plus we live in an age where everything is already here. Not to mention people are too competitive and petty. If two people discover something, instead of combining resources, they fight for dominance over it. We can't discover new species because when we do we want to catch it and study it, not thinking it may be the last one living. I have these thoughts often. But luckily for us there are those people out there who go against the grain and venture out to discover new things. Unfortunately most of the stuff they discover is never revealed to us because of some political BS.

Lonnie, please bump your own thread to the sandbox since Karma was talking about fudge packing.

In my opinion, it has always been like that.
We don't differ that much from the people that lived 2000 years ago.

Politics and religion always stood in the way of science.

All interesting questions Lonnie, I sometimes find myself thinking about the same things. Not a weird thing to do at all, I just wish I had answers to some of these mysteries.

I would think they would have been very afraid to be curious. Someone tries a berry hanging on a bush or a mushroom on the forest floor and dies soon after would certainly make me cautious about trying new things! :rotfl
