Don't remember reading a while back about the ikea 4 white dioder lights being changed or not. Heard the color was different or something like that. Is that true? Cause I have 2 of those dioders that I'm using right now that I bought about 2-3 years ago and now I want to get another one and just wanted to make sure if I got it then it will match the color to my old ones. Please let me know.

I believe now the white is more of a warm white versus the cool white they used to be.

I used the Dioder LED strips from Ikea. Mounted them at the front of each shelf and ran the cables neatly down the inside metal frame. It gives each shelf a nice light.

I actually like that its now a Warm White, not cool White... Feels less harsh on the eyes.

Have a look...

Now you just need to hide the front edge and the lights. When I'm at my computer again I'll share some tips with photos for that.

So I covered the edges of the glass shelves with some 12mm pvc angle.
Still can see the lights directly on some angles but it's a much nicer and cleaner look I believe...

I've been using melamine edging, the same kind used to trim the edge of a cut 3/4" MDF or particle board panel when making shelving, etc. This edging is applied with a clothes iron it should stick perfectly well to the glass shelf edge.

Here are a few images showing the edging:

Since taking the photo above, I've painted the bottom edging in grey to match the shelves, which makes it pretty much invisible when you look at the whole display.

I thought I had more up to date images of this Detolf where I have edging on every shelf, but these are the only ones showing it. When I have some time I'll take another top to bottom shot of the whole cabinet so it's easy to see the effect of hiding the lights.

To cut reflections on the back glass, you might consider covering it with fabric or other non-reflective material.

I just picked up some Cyron LED bars.... I'm a little stumped though.

The tape that comes for the arched black brackets that hold the tubes... do I peel the red section off the top to stick it to the plastic, and then stick it to the detolf? or am I missing something here.

2 side adhesive? Sounds like you got it right: 1 side placed onto the product and the other for wherever you're going to stick it onto the Detolf unit.

Yeah I got it. Just the red end doesn't want to give.

Really easy installation on these lights and just one at the top lights up the whole case. Plus they change colors and flux if you want. Total value for 50 bucks.

Plus you can turn the tube in the little bracket to get max light where you want. Fantastic.

Only thing I would change is a wireless remote :D

Wow. I love these Cyron Lights. Thanks Skullmilita!

It's really easy to get in there and the amount of light you get is fantastic. It pushes light all the way down to the third shelf. I also love that you can just stick them in and rotate the tube to get max coverage.

Plus the strobe and color change is awesome.

The only thing I would change is add a wireless remote :D

Here is my current set up with the lights off:

Took some updated images of whole cabinets today and update my office thread… Here are two of my three (hidden) LED-lit Detolf cabinets. You can see (much) higher resolution versions by clicking through to Flickr.

I've been upgrading my displays based on advice from here and other collector forums. This is first bench test of LED lighting, and it went really well! I custom cut lengths of LED strip from a 5 meter roll, then attached them to the metal uprights with cable ties. I was able to get connectors, so no soldering to get around the shelves, as well as a remote control switch with multiple dimming levels. And since I ended up with some extra strip, I can make custom shelf height sections and swap them in if I need to.

If you're in Canada, LED Montreal has all the stuff you need! I used the 5 meter 3528 single-color cool white strip kit, plus a bunch of the short connectors. The 5 meters was enough for one Detolf with a fair amount of extra.

Your display would benefit greatly from using the electrified Detolf rail installation I have mentioned and documented several times. It's in my Office thread linked in my signature as well. With that type of installation you will not need any vertical wires or zip ties. Only the LED strip pieces on each shelf, with a tiny bit of wire sticking out on each end to touch the horizontal rails - where those wire segments touch you just need to sand/scrape the paint off the rails (a small .5 to 1cm length of paint removed is more than enough). No soldering required, but if you have the option, solving the small pieces of wire to the sections of strip provides the cleanest installation.

Also, the prices at that LED Montreal place are way too high. You can buy everything at a FRACTION of the cost with ZERO TAX from eBay - usually with free shipping too.

Can i ask if the shelf unter your Detolf is the EXPEDIT also from IKEA?
cause in the prdouctinformation its noted that the max. of stress for the expedit is 15 kg. and the Detolf weights 40 kg alone o_O

That recommendation is for loading the SHELF of the Expedit - that's the interior. You can easily put 100lbs static load on top of a single Expedit cube without any worries.
