Hi there,

I'm pretty new to toy collecting and I am wondering what limited edition means exactly?
I'm thinking: a limited edition figure will only have 'one-run' - and if the figure was to sell out, then there wouldn't be a 'second-run'.
I don't know if that's right or not.

Thanks.

P.S What does open edition mean?

You pretty much nailed it.
An open edition means they will produce as many as needed.

There is also the matter of Limited Editions that supply a number and Limited Editions that don't, in which case the buyer never knows the edition size. But that's another can of worms. :lol

Welcome to the board. :wave :welcome1:

"Limited Edition" means more or less depending on context--who is releasing the thing, and how limited it is in relation to other, similar things. Hot Toys released figures with a "limited edition" of 4,000 not long ago. And they weren't the most popular figures out there, so just about all of them can be found for sub-retail at this point. At a certain point, the title loses much of its meaning IMO.

With sideshow #'s wise you know what you are getting. With Hot Toys its more like f you here comes a 4th version with a extra toe.
