did any of you go visit there while going to Comic Con? I'm very curious to know what it smells like there.

Yeah, if they spent as much time looking for a job than protesting, they might have one.

I would be happy for them if they had some sort of agenda or goal. I would say 98% of the people don't know why they are there. I've seen interviews with these morons and they are talking about how they are against capitalism as they stand there holding an iphone and drinking a starbucks. Go figure! :rotfl

You guys should be celebrating the right to protest in your country, however misguided the aims of those doing it. Whatever you think about the inconvenience they're causing, or their draining of various resources etc... you live in a free society, dammit, where anyone, no matter how dim witted or ignorant, can assemble in a public place and whine about stuff. In Beijing they would've been rounded up and sent off for re-education. Might be the outcome you'd like, but would you be prepared to live in China to accommodate it? I'm organising an Occupy SDCC next year to whine about Hot Toys not completing lines from unprofitable licenses. Who's with me? (There'll also be room for those who want to whine about HT milking the IM line, Indy's sucky Ford likeness, and not being able to afford every figure you damn well want)

But in Beijing, they would have something real to complain about.

When it comes right down to it, these monkeys are protesting the fact that they have the freedom to protest.

I saw a special on CNN about this a couple days ago, and I'm not sure these folks have a very sophisticated understanding of the global economy. It sucks that things are hard for lots of people out there, but you aren't gonna make things better for yourself and your children by implementing protectionist trade policies and drastically modifying the tax system at the expense of the rich. Not that there is even a remote possibility of any of that stuff taking place.

I think you need to educate yourself on this. No one is saying they shouldn't be allowed to protest. I'm all for peaceful protest. However, there have been assaults, gropings, and rapes occurring. That to me is much more than an inconvenience. :dunno

Most of the people there don't even know why they are there. They are there for free food, drugs, and the general hippie vibe that they covet. To be honest they are an embarrassment to this country IMO.

theres a group there who I think before they joined the protest they would go to the backs of supermarkets and take food that is thrown out in the dumpsters and eat it, its called dumper diving I think. have any of you done that before?

Yeah, you got me :lol

You're right, TBH I haven't been following this too closely, so no, I didn't know about the assaults and the like. I kind of switched off as soon as I found out why they were protesting. There have been copycat protests in Sydney and Melbourne, populated by the usual rent-a-crowd suspects. The cops let them have a week before breaking them up. They cried police brutality, but didn't get any sympathy from the wider community oddly enough.

nah the ones in New York are going to stay past winter, there is another article I read where an unemployed woman is helping the cause by knitting gloves for them to keep them warm.

That's a really great question. Of course, I'm sure we have all done that before.

so then how is the food like, is it still wrapped and edible, any molds or decaying, spoil souring or is eveyrthing very fresh? especially the breads?

I have done it, and being of French extraction, I select only the moldiest of discarded foodstuffs. Sometimes you have to dig real deep, but it's there.

I was watching a video and this guy said he never got sick, speaking of French did you take part in the protests years ago when they took over some local McDonalds, I think it was over some farmer movement. the men tend to look scruffy and grungie but some of the women protesters look nice like some gothic appeal to them but lie when they say thye are vegan.

Yeah, total double standard. And where were they 10, 20, 30 years ago if they felt so strong about corporate greed.
