The exact reason why SS requires me to go thru certain type of hassle before even accepting a credit card issued in India. And why I've to think twice before taking a step into Freakland. So is there anyone who has experienced the wrath of Customs? Cuz, I really really want a lot of stuff!

I am from Jaipur. Normally, I get items shipped via USPS Express Mail. Dunno about customs in metros but, here, it works in a different way. If, your packages catches the eye of the customs inspector (which will mainly be due to the fact that your package is carrying a declared value of >$100), AND the package is not declared as Gift, then you're bound to get a notice from the PO. The size of the package though does not matter. About what I had to pay to get the items released from the PO is another story. Unfortunately, I had to resort to more unethical ways to get that done. Hopefully, Anna Hazare's fight against corruption might change things in future.

Just a note - most of the registrations from India have turned out to be spammers, so it's tough for Indians to even get registered here.

However if they email me before or just after registering I'll make sure they get approved.

i have around 7 sideshow statues, apart from 9 hot toys,most of the statues were from e bay like spiderman and hulk for which i had to pay premium price as well as high shipping prices of 200$ for the hulk, so far the only time i had problem with customs was for my t-800 endoskull which was declared 450$ and movie statue and i was charged 5500rs in customs duty(120$) , i agree items above 100$ can be charged customs but i ordered sideshow conan dioram twice both declared original value and wasnt charged, i guess if customs take fancy to your item , they could charge you whatever they feel, initially i was told to pay 15000rs for the endoskull (320$) but was advised to write a letter that item was a gift and submit, 2 days later item was send to post office with a 5500rs customs duty...and i have around 5 bowens as well

lol , u mean u had to bribe the customs,, can u message me detailss, like to know more about that experience, like which item, how much was it declared and your post office experience and how much u paid eventually

im from india as well, had registered around 6 months, didnt know there was anything against indians, uptil now, and started meeting fellow indian collectors until recently only

And guys, thanks for sharing your experiences. One thing I wanna ask is, if I get my orders to be marked as 'GIFT', will I still have to pay customs if the product is >$100? And are customs still applicable if someone gets stuff along with them from the States?

it all depends on who the customs officer is and bit of luck , like i said the only time i was charged was for the 450$ declared T-800 endoskull , which was labelled as a movie statue, now im guessing customs officers might know who or what terminator, at the same time my conan statues were declared the orignal value both times and yet not charged (280$), so it all depends on a bit of luck and i dont think ur aunty or uncle bringing it along fro states will matter too, it all depends on what the customs officer thinks about it, if they feel its just a toy statue , they are likely to let it go , if they know the true value as a collectible u could be charged customs, i think its better to mark items as gift,i also try to space out my purchases, dont want the post office or customs people to start taking note cos of the extra large packages ..

Hey, now I know why u ordered Conan. And why the customs let it pass...!!
Anyways, the collection is amazing to say the least. The Tony headsculpt is awesome, pics not withstanding. Will start collecting HTs this year.
2 things coming up next month. Not big but I love 'em. DBZ and TF related.
Did you get all your orders marked as gifts? And were the invoices in the package itself??

i never asked anyone to mark as gifts but its better to give details of the seller as in individual rather than a toy shop and ask them to value item around 100$

Yeah. I think Insurance is the only option. Cuz when I got Lobo his pack was dented/creased on a lot of sides. The figure itself was safe but still it doesnt feel good. My Darkseid n Kalibak 2-pack arrived in perfect condition. Guess its all a matter of luck..!!
