No one else is concerned about a bunch of astronauts going up in space with a long rod and being alone without women for a period of time?

Actually, the shuttle was commanded by a woman, as is the ISS at this time. :monkey3 I happened to be listening to NPR yesterday morning when they were talking about it. It's the first time that two simultaneous space missions have been commanded by women. You go, girls! :rock
 
I see a senario happening where the door latch breaks and they have to use the saber like the inanimate carbon rod on the Simpsons episode.
 
So what is the big deal about taking a movie prop into space?

Just the fact it will be the only lightsaber that has ever actually been in space.
I do agree it is mostly a publicity stunt to increase its value once GL decides to auction it off, but still I don't know of any other "movie props" that have traveled to actual space which is where most sci-fi movies or series are based.
