He really is. Gotta get back to work on him one of these days. Then I'll do a real photo-shoot. :)
 
That's a good question. I kind of fail in that department actually.


Pros usually use something curved in the background so that there are no hard edges, which can be distracting. But, I've never given much attention to that yet.
 
Nothing fancy. He's sitting on a black desk with a white wall behind him. The key to this shot (and many in this thread) is the low light. This is exclusively the light from my monitor.

Oh wow. So in order to get that effect, I'd need lighting from the front and have my ISO set as low as 100 with my shutter speed open longer right?
 

This one is great, love the shadow. And it does help a bit that the background is "flat", without any visible edges. I use thin cardboard backgrounds (20*27") in different colors when taking shots of my figs. You should be able to get them at any hobby store for a couple of bucks.

I think the above shot could also look very cool if shot from a slightly higher angle, with her looking down (not directly into the camera). I really like that walking stance.
