The LOTR line is one of my favorites P!tu. Unfortunately, like others have said it can consume you. There are so many pieces....do you go with the 1/6 figures, PFs, dioramas, helms, minibusts, full scale busts, SS/Weta statues...there is sooooo much to choose from. I realized quickly that I could never have it all and had to pick and choose the pieces that spoke the most to me....so I have a little bit of them all. (except the 1:1 busts). Good luck in your hunting P!tu. Depending on what you choose to collect, the LOTR line can get very expensive. :D

Well, that is overstated, look at SW line! 30 years in the making! and still going strong! Any possible form of collectable is being produced and STILL producing... while not trying to promote SW here, I hope the LOTR line will still be continued after that amount of time... BUT i do hope that they don't keep producing Gandalf like they produce Darth Vadar!!!

Hummmm, I'm not sure what is overstated. I was merely telling P!tu that he has several different formats to choose from, and trying to collect them all would not only be difficult but costly....especially some of those SS/Weta pieces that have become very expensive. I started with helms, loved them so much I got into SS/Weta, then PF then the 1:6 line.....it can be rather consuming when the pieces are all so well done.

Oh Jen, no mean to discredit or undermine what you said, I am just saying that "there are too many things to choose" in the LOTR line maybe more applicable to the SW line. But in time, LOTR will be the same too!

No offense!

Seriously!! Obviously since TOE or I have never seen/heard of it....it must be one of the rare items that are probably worth both arms and legs.....but what is on it?

Bannister pretty much summed it up. You get to see the collector side of Peter Jackson and Richard Taylor as well. Plus seeing the artists from the films working on these pieces and then presenting them to the actors is really cool. It defines the "special" link with these pieces.

The Gollum CD IS an unabashed commercial....but dang it...it's so slickly well done. Luckily (or unluckily), I had already discovered SS/Weta stuff long before, but I have friends of mine who got hooked just by watching that CD. They kept coming to my house and salivating over my (then) small collection. And now, their spouses aren't talking to me.:monkey3

It is that. I find it so cool to be able to just watch how the process of these got started and all that jazz. IMO it shows just how special the SSW line is and why its loved so much.

No offense taken. I had read your original post incorrectly and was misinterpreting your true meaning. :) I don't know what I would do if there were more formats to choose from!!! I have a hard enough time being selective as it is now. :lol

Yeah, we can handle him i guess. Just because we tend to be more bookish doesn't mean we can't trash anybody who crosses us. So behave, p!tu--one wrong move and you meet the same fate as an orc neck on the wrong side of a blade. Got it?

:lol Anyway one of the advantages of LOTR collecting is the huge breadth of things you can collect--books, music, statues, action figures, weapons, etc. I try to be pretty diverse; a nice mix of different things can be really classy, and after all, LOTR does tend to be pretty classy in the first place. But it's really different from most lines like Transformers or Pirates and all that--there's a huge history of literature, studies, films, music, and more that make up the LOTR experience. It's really involving but the best kind of fun. And I will say--there are some very lovely ladies that are big LOTR fans. I have a bunch of friends that come over just to look at my 1:6 collection. So there are some very worthwhile benefits to the thing, too.
