Re: The Man of Steel
I don't about you guys but I have been waiting nearly 30 years for this movie. The original reeve's movies came out when I was a kid. Saw superman 2 in theatre when I was like 3 or 4 and man did it make an impression on me. I can still watch the first 2 but obviously they no longer have the same effect (effects and lack of real action overtime have gotten to me I guess).
I had great expectations for superman returns at first until I found out it was a continuation of the reeves films. I mean how do you let 20 plus years pass, change actors and expect people to feel the same connection to that original character and films that proceeded it. it had failure written all over it. I did watch it however and much like the first 2 it lacked real action, had no character development (supes said like 4 lines the whole movie), and as expected felt disconnected. It is better then superman 3 and 4 but that ain't saying much.
Hopefully this movie does this great character justice. After watching the trailers it seems like it may just do that. It was a major win for them casting Michael Shannon as Zod. I believe like heath ledger as the joker before him, this part as Zod will catapult him into stardom. He is an amazing actor that just hasn't recieved enough recognition, and this will be his breakout role that everyone sees.
Fun fact about the cast of the movie. 6 of the cast members have won or have been nominated for academy awards (best lead actor/director/supporting role) including Michael Shannon.
Crowe, Costner, Adams, Fishburne, Shannon, Diane Lang.
Cavil is the lone ranger with no accolades, and he happens to be playing the most important part.
