Re: The Man of Steel

I liked the music, I liked that Clark/Superman looked powerful as heck. Even though we already "know" he has powers going into it, he looks so calm in the handcuffs that you can feel he can rip them off as if they were paper anytime he wanted. The action looks good, and I hope they didn't already tip their hand to the best stuff in the trailers like SR did with the airplane scene and the bullet to the eye.

Plotwise (and that's judging just from this trailer, which may be misleading in its emphasis), it seems to be a remake of Superman I and II rolled into one film. Let's hope there is a lot more interesting stuff to the story than updated special effects.

Re: The Man of Steel

2012 - the dark knight rises

2013 - man of steel

One can see this coming a mile away. 2012 was The Avengers vs TDKR and this year will be Iron Man 3 vs Supes. Gonna be an annoying summer of pettiness in this section. :lol

Just using this quote as a marker for my point

It shares the origin story from superman 1 and the 3 kryptonain villians from 2 but I can clearly see which comics they are borrowing from makes me wonder how long then can keep borrowing from the comics and can they produce their own story.

So going by this we can expect the death of superman story arch to some how feature in to the next superman sequel?

Sad but true, Wolverine and Thor will be hated even if they're good

Re: The Man of Steel

I liked everything except the lack of John Williams. But eventually my butt-hurt will dissipate.

/high hopes :)

Re: The Man of Steel

Epic is JW Superman music that has lasted for over 3 decades, is instantly recognizable for what it was created for, still sounds amazing and is used at freaking water parks, ice rinks, and stadiums.

That's epic. :lol

I don't have a problem with borrowing elements from the comics as long as the overall MAIN story isn't simply something I've seen or read before. (Unless it's something that's meant to be a straight adaptation, the the DC Animated movies).

Over The Dark Knight Trilogy, the Nolans and Goyer borrowed heavily from Year One, Killing Joke, Long Halloween, KnightFall, No Man's Land (and probably some more that I can't think of now), but it wasn't a straight rethread of an exact story we've seen before. Now granted, there are some aspects of Superman's lore that have to be in place...Jor-El has to send him to Earth to save him from his doomed planet, just as surely as Bruce Wayne's parent's have to get killed in front of him. But it seems to very specifically mirror some scenes from the Donner films, the main one that irked me is the similarity between:

Zod warning Jor-El that his heirs will kneel before him in the Donner films, and here threatening "You think your son is safe? I WILL FIND HIM!" (looks like he's talking to the Kents in at least part of that, but that's probably just how the trailer is cut). The beef between Zod and the family El seems very personal in both movies. Maybe how it's meant to be.

Again, that's just judging from the trailer, which I will happily admit, has probably successfully misled me about how the plot actually flows and how much weight is given to different parts of the story.

Re: The Man of Steel

Though Brando won't ever be topped, looks like Russell will come about as close as you can get.

Looks like we won't get a clumsy in front of the public Clark. (remains to be seen) The interview scene kinda harkens back to the Reeve Kidder rooftop interview in a way.

Re: The Man of Steel

Being on the DC Cinematic Universe! I can't wait until Jon Hamm's Batman movie comes out in 2016.:yess:
