Re: The Man of Steel

Hmmm

while this new OST might be perfect for this movie, and the movie itself might be the best Superman movie ever, what i've listened so far will be forgotten in 2 years time, forget lasting 35 plus years like JW score has.

John Williams = A God

Zimmer = Mediocre mortal

Can't judge a score on 6 minutes

I agree. I love it. But like most Zimmer's scores, it'll be forgotten.

My favorite piece he's ever done is Time from Inception. It moves my soul.

And Rango. Rango is great.

You have to admit though, Zimmer's last couple OST's have been outstanding.

I disagree 100%. Looking at the scores he's done in the past couple of years ...ehh....

2012 The Dark Knight Rises Meh. Same old same old.

2012 The Longest Daycare (short) No clue

2012 Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (music by) No idea.

2011 Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters (video short) Nada

2011 Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Mostly rehash

2011 Curiosity (TV series documentary) No idea
– Is There a Parallel Universe? (2011)

2011 Jealous of the Birds (documentary) No idea

2011 Kung Fu Panda 2 Best stuff came from John Powell

2011 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides 100% all recycled crap.

2011 Crysis 2 (Video Game) No idea

2011 Megamind: The Button of Doom (video short) No idea

2011 Rango (music by) Truly great score.

I like Zimmer. But I wish he'd do more unique stuff. He kinda gets stuck in the norm, and I feel like no one gives him the freedom to make something unique.

True.

I was wondering if I had heard only 6 minutes of the JW score back in 78 before the movie, what would've I scored it.

Lets see, I really love the score for BB/TDK/TDKR.

What I find interesting is that while none of the music in his Batrilogy are as memorable as Superman 78 or 89 Batman, they're still unique and special in their own way.

The music in the trailer alone blows those clips out of the water.

The score works in the film. It's solid. No, it's not transcendent and won't be a classic like the Williams scores. And there are moments where it reminds me too much of the TDK stuff. But, overall, the score is neither a detriment or a weakness.

These clips are not a great representation. It falls in between "meh" and SOLIDSNAKE's "epic!"

I do like what I heard but I will say the Gladiator stuff we've heard I think works really well with this movie.

Interesting take.

Interesting take.

I really enjoy that soundtrack. I have it and have listened to it on several occasions over the years. When they started using that with the trailers something about the look and sound just worked.
