Re: The Man of Steel

Yeah.....look, Silvestri is my favorite composer, personally....but John Williams will forever be one of the best of all time. I have too much respect for him to call anyone "better".

That being said, not a giant fan of his modern stuff. Not as good. But that's OK. He's done more then enough.

Re: The Man of Steel

Who is this John Williams everyone is talking about? :huh

Not sure I've heard anything by him. :dunno

Hans Zimmer on the other hand.... :rock

Re: The Man of Steel

Williams has a more old school symphonic vibe, Hans was some of that too but with more electronica in it.
I like Williams because he made some really memorable main themes but i tend to listen to Hans more often.
But the problem with Hans is that he kinda repeat himself and he has been copied so much (Oblivion recentely for exemple) that it has become some sort of music you don' really pay attention to sometimes.

However i really dig the trailer music.
Makes a great new superman theme.

EDIT: listened to the OST preview, like what i'm earing it will do wonders with Snyder's visuals!

I couldn't care less :lol

Sure, Williams and The Beatles were pioneers and groundbreaking for their fields of music

That doesn't mean everyone has to enjoy their work more than anything that's come after

B-b-but Star Wars, the Imperial March, Indiana Jones, Shindler's List, Superman, E.T., friggin' Jurassic Park!

I mean we're all entitled to our own opinions, and Zimmer isn't terrible by any means (I love alot of his stuff), but to put things in perspective the guy uses a computer and a piano with synthesizers, Williams conducts a WHOLE orchestra. He's more than just a pioneer isn't he, most of his work are classic film soundtracks.

Re: The Man of Steel

Williams has earned the right to be not quite as good anymore. His 70s, 80s and a few 90s scores are just an astounding body of work.

James Horner and Zimmer would be my other faves.

Horner has Star Trek II, Braveheart, Apollo 13, Titanic, Willow, Aliens and I'm sure others that I'm forgetting.

Zimmer has the Dark Knight scores, Crimson Tide, I think he did the music for The Rock (correct me if I'm wrong), Rain Man, Black Hawk Down and one of my all time faves - Gladiator.

:exactly:

Y'all need to recognize. :lecture :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Jerry Goldsmith laughs at both from on top of his mountain.

If Nolan would have used Williams, then 'Void would like Williams the bestest.

Goldsmith certainly has good scores but I would tend to listen to them less than the music of other composers.

His best theme IMO is the Star Trek The Motion Picture (TNG) theme.

I also like his score for Total Recall and Alien.
