Re: The Man of Steel

Really? No one is going to mercilessly mock the lens flare here or the trailers? I'm so disappointed at my fellow freaks.:ohbfrank:

(But honestly, why are lens flares ok in Superman but not Star Trek?)

They are only OK if the director's style is Lens Flairs.

Snyder's style is contrasty slow motion.

Re: The Man of Steel

Because Zack Snyder hasn't bombarded us with them through his whole résumé. Nah, I'm just kidding; I actually don't see what the big deal is about lens flare, even with the Star Trek movies. I barely pay it any mind, and frankly, I thought it was awesome in the new Trek trailer when I saw IM3 (the lens flare is 3D!?!?!?! Awesome!).

Re: The Man of Steel

The deluxe edition OST is on ITunes now for PO.

The sound track is very good, but it does really remind me of Battlestar Galactica season 2-4. Lots of very cool tribal percussion with ethereal voices. No real "theme" as such.
No one does this kind of synth percussion better than Zimmer.

In fact the one thing I will say about the movie, is how many scenes and dialogue snippets were mirrored from the Donner movies and even a couple of things from Superman Returns.

I have no problem with this, as the movie feels like its own thing (which Returns failed to do) but there was a lot of hoopla early on about moving on from Returns and Donners originals. And a move away from the serious moody tone of Returns. Seems they couldn't quite do that entirely, there are lots of moments here that you will have seen or heard before, but presented in an all together different context.

...and this? ...is ****ing inspired! :lol

Yeah. Or superspeed. Or bulletproof-ness. Or flight. All those nonsensical 'powers' just detract from the character. Personally ... I'd prefer a character-study about a naive reporter from a small town that wanders around Metropolis and marvels at all the big buildings. They should've called it "Gee, that's swell: The Clark Kent Story".
