Re: The Man of Steel

Me personally never thought the Avengers was that great. It was entertaining but a far cry from being the greatest superhero movie. Anyone else feel the Marvel movies lately have become to campy? I personally don't like that in my superhero movies.
Yes. .

Re: The Man of Steel

The Marvel films know how to have fun and mix camp in with serious drama. None of the characters are boring or dull.

I've always thought Avengers was great. It was a colorful surprise to all the bland, pretentious crap out there. Great action, colorful heroes, witty banter, great summer entertainment.

Which is what a comic book movie should be, because superheroes are camp. If you want to make a comic book movie that is comic book in name only, why bother? Just make a straightforward crime drama, then you won't have to deal with the people in the silly halloween costumes.

Re: The Man of Steel

Just seen the trailer for this in 3D prior to ST- Into Darkness and it looks amazing aon even a regular cinema screen.

:offtopic: Star Trek, on the other hand....Well, as a major Trek fan (from childhood)...not so great. :gah:

This is truth. Fact. And perfect in every way.

This is the post of the year so far. Everyone else is wrong.

Sounds like it's going to be great then!

:goodpost:

Avengers is mindless fun like Transformers, but nowhere near the best.

Agreed about the Campiness too, more so since Avengers, IM3 went overboard with the comedy imo, was a decent movie overall though.

Thor had the perect balance of humour and drama.

It's nothing like Transformers except the big alien thing at the end climax. Transformers doesn't have a single character that's even close to Stark, Rogers, Banner or Thor, not to mention character interactions. The dialogue is no where as good either. With Avengers, there was something for everyone. Transformers just caters to some general audience of kids that like to see **** blow up and transform.

If Avengers is "mindless fun", what the hell did that make ASM? It wasn't a crime drama, it wasn't an action flick, it wasn't fun, it wasn't silly, I'm not sure what the hell it was.

An origin story? Saw that a decade earlier, done better.

And Iron Man 3 had the same balance. Never too serious, never too campy. Just the right stuff from scene to scene.

Re: The Man of Steel

I think comic book movies work best that way, honestly. Look at batman 89, it's a perfect film because of how much fun it is.

Re: The Man of Steel

Something, something The Dark Knight, something, something, comparison, something, blah, blah of the year, blah blah

:sleep :sleep

Nobody is talkin' about no Dark Knights. I just see mindless, negative babble about Avengers for the sole reason of putting Man of Steel (a film none of us have even seen yet to compare it to) on a pedestal. I mean, why even bring up Avengers in the first place? I got nothing against Solid, but sometimes he comes off as a bit simple minded.

I know it's nothing new but it sort of shows the hype mentality and stupidity that's at play here.

Be excited for Man of Steel, I am. But bring down a great and successful film from last year to make the new toy look better? Why?

Re: The Man of Steel

I find it funny how people are so sensitive about the Avengers movie topic. How dare you voice your opinion. Relax just wanted to know if anyone thought these Marvel movies have become to campy. I prefer to keep that out of the movie.

Re: The Man of Steel

Why are those of you (CelticP) who think anything outside of pure, annoying campiness in a superhero movie is boring even in this thread? Man of Steel clearly isn't going to be a cheesefest like most of the Marvel Avengers movies. :dunno

I think people were just bringing up the fact that you felt the need to bring up the Avengers in a thread about a Superman movie. :dunno

Enlighten us, what do you rate Snyder's Man of Steel at and how does it compare to the past Superman movies which have all been such serious movie?
