Re: The Man of Steel

Why are those of you (CelticP) who think anything outside of pure, annoying campiness in a superhero movie is boring even in this thread? Man of Steel clearly isn't going to be a cheesefest like most of the Marvel Avengers movies. :dunno

You do know how silly all this comic book **** is right? You DO know how goddamn silly and campy Pacific Rim is...right? You're aware of this? Giant monsters? Robots? That is beyond silly goofy stuff. Aside from the original Godzilla film, all that **** is camp to the extreme.

Superman, by default, is camp. No matter how you change his suit, or repackage his contents...he's still a man named Superman, and he can fly around and shoot lasers from his eyeballs.

You can have him kill pregnant women for the sake of being gritty...but that **** is still camp.

yeah, if Burton hadn't already done it in 89? It is nice though.
But I have to say, I'm pretty damn sick of that red metallic S. The S on the suit is fine, just this damn graphic.
It's been over used IMO, the whole marketing of this movie from a graphic design point of view has been pretty ****. I don't personally like one of the posters, not one.

The trailers have been generally awesome though, but they don't really give a feel for the movie itself I have to say.

This was a beautiful poster...

Haha, I was ready to post, "HEY, THEY RIPPED OFF BATMAN 1989".

Then I saw Rory's post.

The movies themselves don't have to be campy and cheesy though. And they shouldn't be.

The concept of Superman is incredibly goofy. An alien who looks just like a human that can fly and shoot lasers out of his eyes running around in a blue spandex suit saving people from evil alien monsters.

That **** can't get any sillier. But Superman's purpose isn't supposed to be comical and campy. He's a symbol of hope, peace and justice. He's the people's true hero.

You're saying, that just because the character looks silly or has silly abilities, that we should ignore everything else and make the movie as god damn silly as possible. I don't want to go see a comedy. I want to see a serious, dramatic film that really touches me.

The whole point of superheros in general is that in an ORDINARY WORLD JUST LIKE THE ONE WE OURSELVES LIVE IN, there's this one person who isn't ordinary. And that's just amazing. It's not supposed to be like Star Wars where everything is fantastical and unusual. Superman is supposed to be based in our reality...that's what makes him "Super".

Re: The Man of Steel

Lol, I guess he is right; all superhero movies should be cheesy, campy and inferior products. He must have really hated the nolan batmans and ironman 1, since neither of those superhero movies are camp. Even avengers had very little camp in it, it was humorous but the tone was serious not campy. Sorry if u want campy, silly cheese in your superhero movies u are living in the wrong decade. Make a time machine and go back to the 70-80s. Serious tone and realism are here to stay. Its the reason CBM have been successful of late and led to the resurgence. If you want the audience to take it serious the films need to have a serious tone; camp is what killed the superhero movie genre in the 80s and early 90s

The subject matter is silly but that doesn't mean it can't be taken seriously or the tone of the movie has to be silly as well.

Green Lantern was campy silly and cheesy and look how that turned out.

Maybe people are confusing campiness with humor??

Exactly at the 7 minutes mark, there's the JW influence. :horror

Man, these clips are like a mix of Brasilian Carnival batucada drums mixed with TDKR mixed with Fidler on the Roof mixed with Yentl mixed with Gladiator mixed with 2001 mixed with The Terminator.

I know I missed someone. :lol
