Yeah, B-Sing doesn't get enough credit. Superman Returns outgrossed Batman Begins. I'm half-hoping Man of Steel does worse.

Re: The Man of Steel

But saying five prior Superman films don't really "count" or something is just silly.]

But it's accurate, the other Superman movies mean p o o p.

The whole idea of this movie was to get as far away from Donner/Singer as possible.

So they did that by still using some of JW music twisted into the soundtrack and using Zod and friends as villains. :lol

But seriously, this movie had an uphill battle to begin trying to present a better origin than S1, hard thing to do.

Hell, this movie doesn't even have Clark Kent in it. :lol

Batman at least saved his city from destruction, w/o any super powers no less. :lol

That's why this film feels so morose. Nolan's Batman prevented most of the bad **** from going down, saving lives in the process (at least in the first two films.) In MOS, the damage is done. Sure, Supes come out on top, but at what cost? The message of this movie is the only way to stop space terrorists is through more "wanton violence and destruction." The damage is literally apocalyptic and left me wondering, how the hell they'll clean up the mess, AND find a bigger threat in a sequel.

Perhaps that was Nolan's plan all along. "They'll criticize my movie. I'll give them something to criticize, and then they'll realize just how wrong they always were."

Maybe that was Zod's plan. From what I hear, the construction unions in Metropolis paid him a hefty sum to inflict all of that collateral damage that they got paid to clean up later. Hell, it was happening all around this guy and he didn't give a super****. You aren't that nonchalant when your city's being destroyed:

Re: The Man of Steel

Not really, you said what you said and there it was for all to see.

Good luck in your quest to tilt with windmills, so to speak; I await the tale of your uphill battle with interest - since I doubt your proclamation that the films do not actually count because you don't want them to, is going to gain much traction outside this forum.

[I can like this film, AND I can like the Avengers. Its not a zero-sum thing, nor do thugs wearing "MAKE MINE MARVEL!" t-shirts show up at midnight to drag traitors screaming off into the night, ne'er to be seen again. If you prefer The Avengers, great. Its not a crime.

But saying five prior Superman films don't really "count" or something is just silly.]

So either you're intentionally taking my initial post completely out of context for the sake of trolling, or you truly do need help with your reading comprehension skills. :lol

Who needs Villains when you have Kal-el. :lol

I'm joking, haven't even seen it yet, but i've read the destruction and casualties are TDKR thread high. :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Just saw the movie and all i can say is, "Super Krypto, really!?" Wow, i did not see that coming.

Re: The Man of Steel

Saw it tonight and loved it. I truly don't get where all the cynicism is coming from.

It definitely felt like a modern version of this iconic character... I don't feel it was morose or sad at all. In the end it was very hopeful and optimistic... but not overly saccharin.

I have a feeling that there's an even better director's cut out there... the thing moves at lightning speed and there are elements I definitely could have used more of.

I will admit the destruction is huge but these are meant to be gods battling on our soil... Superman is definitely set up to be the biggest and baddest superhero of them all and the scope fits somehow... I imagine there's a scene with Kal-el helping with the clean up somewhere out there.

And, yes, it does have one of the best final lines of a film ever.

Re: The Man of Steel

Now I feel dumb, because I can't remember what the final line was. I remember the last scene, but I couldn't tell you exactly who the last person to speak was, or what they said.

Lois says to Clark: "Welcome to the Planet", which (given the theme of Kal-Els fear of being accepted) has a double meaning. And it's great because Clark knows exactly what she means when smiles at her. It's maybe a little corny but it ties the themes together perfectly.

Re: The Man of Steel

so feora was almost right, for everyone one superman saves, hes going to kill millions more during that save from collateral damage...
