ok seriously? are we to the point of trying to justify "physics" in terminator movies?
in that case, i call shenanigans on time travel.

I call shenanigans on you calling shenanigans.

Thanks for the explanations guys.

Actually, I think Cameron did a good job keeping the physics fairly representative of real life when he made T1 and T2. To my eyes, at least.
fair enough. explain how a liquid metal robot works.
where's the processor? how does it read/write information if it's liquid?
is the shape-memory physical? couldn't it just be destroyed by a magnet?
how could it go through the time displacement thingy if it's made entirely of metal?
those are rhetorical, of course.
The funny thing is that in Terminator Salvation a person can be squarely punched by a Terminator and still be able to get up afterword. hmmmm....
i dunno, body armor?
it isn't any less believable than reese blowing up a car by shooting it. or time displacement only working on living stuff. or a terminator being outsmarted and killed by a waitress.
Time travel is something else entirely and it hurts my head to think about it. :lol
shenanigans. just saying.

t-1000 could be explained by nanotech. the memory, computer, and power source part, i've no idea. how do they do they program nano machines. the tiemdisplacement part, the outermost layer could probably reconfigure itself on a molecular level to mimic the miniscule bio electric field put off by living things. scary thing is, there is an artificial metal that has the atomic structure of solid glass when it's in liquid state at room temp. it freakin bounces all over the place like a superball but it dissipates the energy at a super slow rate.

getting puched by a t-800 would probably break a ton of bones and kill someone quickly thereafter. so i call bs as well. but hey it's a movie, it's all for fun.

i'm on a roll. normally i go on and on about more normal things, but i've been reading this great book on the physics of science fiction.

t-1000 could be explained by nanotech.
no it couldn't.
arnold said "mehmetik powly ahlloy". which i assume means mimetic poly-alloy. as in liquid metal. no nanotech.

but, this is all academic. i'm just pointing out that you people opened this can of worms over some silly detail, like THAT was the one unrealistic thing.
seriously. just enjoy the movies for what they're meant to be, instead of sucking the joy out of everything.
They should bring Marcus back with a battery like someone said....CRANK style!
definitely.

Maybe the T-800 in the factory that punched Connor was newly built and needed to be warned up a bit like a car to perform at it's top condition. So it was a weak punch. Hahahaha!

why not? what makes up metal?.... molecules. what are nanobots?.... molecule sized simple machines. throw billions of them into the mix working as a collective and voila. the could flow in liquid or lock into a solid state by re arranging their structure. it's all imagination. i really don't give a **** if the t-1000 was made of monkey spunk and flavored with prom night dumpster babies.

of course it's academic. that's the point of this thread. how am i (or we) sucking the joy out of this? i did enjoy the movie a lot. i'm probably one of the few who really liked it. the whole movie is unrealistic....that's pretty much the idea of a sci-fi action flick.

I dont think the Terminators are made of normal metal....they have to be made of something else....something indestructible, but light. So...they are made out of a fictional metal thats light, and indestructible. I love Sci Fi.

Point is this were alot of holes in the entire movie...which killed it for me. How can marcus NOT KNOW...theirs something different about himself? How about the scene where hes fighting those 3 guys that were about to rape the girl. 1 punch from marcus would have taken those guys heads off! So why didnt he??..and then later on in the movie we see him throwing around a 1000 pound T-800 like its a stuffed toy:confused:........come on McG...dont insult my intelligence like that.

Chris

didnt freakin seem like he felt pain when he put his hand in the light and the troops just shot a hole in it i mean wow . then there was that time when coomon shot him in his ribs and it seemed like he screamed in pain but i couldnt tell if it was pain or rage.

For cying out loud, stop over-analyzing these movies and just sit back and enjoy. It's Science Fiction, not History Channel. Jesus!!!:banghead

What did you guys think of that...
one HUGE termimator (30 feet tall in height) that had those motorcycles shoot out of his legs?

And what did you think of those squidlike, swimming termimators?

He probably didn't until Ben Stiller backhanded over the weekend. :horror

Lol, I know how awful right?!? But parents need to take their kids to a movie over a holiday weekend right? It's funny because when my father was still around he tried damned hard to make me and my brother like action movies and he was the one who ^^^^^ed and complained about us wanting to watch more wholesome family movies. Now I've grown and enjoy the action movies (among a variety of others) and my brother rarely has the patience to sit through anything in one sitting even when he's enjoying the movie.

The nanotech is a good explanation. Your blood is liquid but when you look at it under a microscope, you see solid cells. Nanotech can theoretically be shrunk to the size of blood cells and function effectively as a liquid. As for the power source, there's solar, friction, etc. The sky's the limit on that.

Here's something that I found a bit out of place to me:
The whole heart transplant. First off, the conditions for something like that working are very specific. Blood has to match, the heart has to be sterile as does the environment (and both were exposed and dirty), etc, and then there's still a chance of it not working. Several transplant patients die even despite the conditions being met. Don't even get me started on the fact that this all took place in an open-air MASH unit. :lol

Other than that, the movie was enjoyable. Hopefully there'll be an uncut DVD/BR version down the road with extra scenes that fill in a lot of the holes. :(

if it was nanotech, arnold would've said "nahnotek". but he said "mehmetik powly ahlloy" (liquid metal) which is something else entirely different. the definitions aren't even close.
in fact, the best thing to make nano machines from is carbon, not metal.
trying to say t1000 is nanotech is a big stretch. if skynet could utilize nanotech it would've been infinitely more effective to turn it into a virus that couldn't be stopped by getting dunked in molten steel.
are you people starting to see the slippery slope here yet?

yeah, no, there isn't going to be some frivolous scene filmed specifically to justify that. and i could care less how it happened. and, really, do you see that as less believable than time travel?
hey... maybe they used nanotech to do it!

anywho, this conversation is beyond silly. i'm gonna go see t4 again.

Blame James Cameron. :lol Also, I don't think we're saying T1000 was all nanotech, just that it could be used in his construction and would be consistent with your initial inquiry. Besides, the term "alloy" denotes a combination of items used in its constructon, including carbon. ;)

I wasn't referring to that scene in particular when talking about the deleted scenes, but stating that it'd be nice to see some scenes that cover some of the larger plot holes in the movie overall.

then stop reading and replying if you don't like it. :duh
beside nano-tech was barely a theory in 1991 when the movie was filmed.
