Re: Daredevil Premium format!

I think it'd look cool if the legs were posed as if he was sprinting right at you, with his body contorted like it is, ready to do a jumping twisting kick to the face!

Re: Daredevil Premium format!

I'm familiar with the Hellenistic period and I'm sorry, that Daredevil doesn't seem derivative. If that's what the artist was going for he/she missed. As for the new piece I'd wait before critiquing it. We've all seen one image. At least give it until Tuesday before you decide to shred it.

His mind is already made up its obvious how can you be so critical of a piece were only seen 10% off?

The head-sculpt looks great so I'm optimistic

Re: Daredevil Premium format!

I'm sure a color variant will be coming down the road, based on what I'm reading with the lack of Ex., etc.

Can't wait for the reveal.

Re: Daredevil Premium format!

key component of Hellenistic sculpture is the expression of a sculpture's face and body to elicit an emotional response from the viewer.

KEY POINTS
Hellenistic sculpture takes the naturalism of the body's form and expression to level of hyper-realism where the expression of the sculpture's face and body elicit an emotional response. The sculptures are full of pathos and drama and no longer focus on the ideal.

----

Joshs responses contradicts itself. He goes on to bash that sculpture for reasons I pointed out. He described exactly what it is that makes that other statue a clear representation of its art style. I am not ripping apart the PF.. its the obvious when I said one is similar to previous bodys of work.

Notice the theme of Hyper-realism, The musculature on that Daredevil is not indicative of Hyper-realism, the reason they sculpted the statues in such a fashion in the Hellenistic period was to convey the drama of the situation the piece depicted. It would give the viewer the sense that what was happening in the art was happening in front of them to illicit the emotional response. That daredevil does none of those things. All it does is make me wonder if the person who sculpted it is familiar with muscle anatomy.

So no, I didn't contradict myself, Chet.

Re: Daredevil Premium format!

So has anything other than the teaser pic with fire and stuff been shown?

(Not sure if I'm missing something. :lol)

Good.

I don't see why I have to defend my opinion against antagonism in the first place.

exaggerated realism. NOT realism

"I'm familiar with the Hellenistic period and I'm sorry, that Daredevil doesn't seem derivative."

"That statue is atrocious in my opinion. Overly muscled and ridiculous shading, the face looks like he's in pain....I'm also really not into his ***** laying against his right thigh...the pose was a good idea, just poorly executed. Again just my opinion"[/B]

------

"His facial expression looks like he is in pain". contradicts everything you claim to know of the art style.

Again, why not wait to see what this actually looks like??

Re: Daredevil Premium format!

Yeah I don't think its boring, its just not great, I don't not like it but I don't like it either, this and Thor PF is a pass for me

Me as well. Lots of good stuff coming out but I really wanted a few but not impress enough to buy any of these yet. Something with the details or poses I didn't like about these. Will wait to see more of them during release time. Maybe I may change my mind then. Prices rising doesn't help either.

Dare devil
Jean grey
Thor
New vader pose looking not too good so far
Savage oppress - pose was not great

I will. Then again how am I ripping it to shreds?

I preordered Captain America so obviously me stating it looks like the Captain America (PF) (which it does). Is NOT ripping it apart.

I still think it's boring. Whoop-De-Woo.

Re: Daredevil Premium format!

I've been wanting a DD (like most of the peeps in here) but I really can't stand the extreme head/neck twists that SS puts on so many of their pieces. At least the concept art on Vader and Fett PFs look promising.

Again, wrong, Hyperrealism has nothing to do with exaggeration. It is in fact trying to make something that is not real look as close to real as possible. Look it up. They would use facial expressions, something that before this in sculpture was not done, it was done so that the piece conveyed what the artist was trying to achieve, emotion.

And again, Since he's obviously in an action pose throwing his billy club for what reason would he be in pain? If you were trying to give him a sense of rage then it has failed. A battle cry? again failed. Sending mixed signals with the pose and facial expression again misses the mark of Hellenistic Art.

Makes me think you've never seen any Hellenistic Sculpture

Here's a few, ones I could find without Full frontal Nudity or at least that mostly covered
