What do you expect from the guy behind Preacher? Apart from Punisher, I wouldn't really consider that guy's take on a traditional comic character personally.

Eh, he's a bit OTT and I don't really like his whole attitude about comics in general, but he just "clicks" with certain characters. I tried reading the Boys, but after a few issues in, it became clear that it was just a way for him to trash cape titles and offer violence and ***. A great example of a vulgar, brash and awful human being done right and uniquely is Spider Jerusalem from Ellis' Transmetropolitan IMO. I've not gone through the whole thing, but so far, he's one hell of a fictional character, without falling victim to the usual tropes of the "anti-hero".

the retention of the black race is more a cosmetic decision than anything else. And at that point, does it matter anymore?

:exactly:
This is an excellent question that rarely gets asked or explored.

One of the biggest offenders there is Nick Fury. I don't care that he's black, but I do care that he's Ultimates Fury (i.e., Samuel L. Jackson in any given role) and not the grizzled, battle hardened warrior that 616 Fury always was.

:clap

Another great point. I have no gripe with SLJ as Nick Fury, but the Ultimates version pales next to what Steranko did with the character.
Jackson's Fury is too old, too flabby, and too much of an administrator to ever fill Steranko's boots:

Nuff said.

The man hopped out of a crashing helicopter, shot a jet with a bazooka, survived an all out assault by Hydra agents, including the Winter Soldier only to be shot in the back, declared dead and still survived.

And people still complain, Sheesh!

Well, to be fair, Steranko/Hickman Fury is the best spy, and Ennis Fury is the best...well...

I'm more concerned with changes to intrinsic personality characteristics and motivations. And there, I blame the comics as much as the movies/TV shows in a case like Luke Cage or Tony Stark (in the latter case, his movie incarnation had an effect on the comic version). One of the biggest offenders there is Nick Fury. I don't care that he's black, but I do care that he's Ultimate Fury (i.e., Samuel L. Jackson in any given role) and not the grizzled, battle hardened warrior that 616 Fury always was.
Well said.

And sorry if I sound like a broken record, but AEMH did justice to both and I wish MCU's Fury was like that:

The man hopped out of a crashing helicopter

After losing his base and fleeing.

shot a jet with a bazooka

In an attempt to save NYC and failing.

survived an all out assault by Hydra agents, including the Winter Soldier only to be shot in the back, declared dead and still survived

Again -- all fleeing.

The 616 Fury was more pro-active, not so re-active.
MCU Fury gives motivational speeches and flees from one blindsiding defeat to another.
616 Fury may be an anachronistic character, but he was still a field operative -- a one-man demolition squad.
He was only a Colonel so he could still be a soldier, and not just a desk jockey.

MCU Fury did kill Alexander Pierce . . . I'll give him that.
The Russo Bros. gave Fury his richest cinematic role yet. He actually had something to do with the development of the plot and his character had an arc.

And people still complain, Sheesh!

Thing is, Ultimate Fury is pretty bad-*** in his own right. Post Ultimatum most characters started going downhill, but those Ultimates vs Avengers and whatnot series, even though they were pretty silly, did develop Fury more and turned him into an actually quite good character. It's why I'm dissapointed we're stuck with Jr. instead of bringing in Ultimate Fury along with Miles. MCU Fury is pretty cool in his own right, escpecially in TWS, but he could use a bit more fleshing out...

PS: For a thread about Iron Fist, this conversation sure took a wild turn. Personally, I'm hoping they adapt Immortal Iron Fist with a dose of Heroes for Hire and the NOW! vol.

Completely agree about 616 Fury. Everything he's done from Secret War, to Secret Invasion, starting the Secret Warriors and everything they showed him doing in Original Sin? Completely ****ing espionage badass who I've yet to see in the MCU. We saw just a hint of that in TWS.

But Iron Fist...im seriously excited for this and hope they go all the way with his origin. They're probably gonna do the same format with DD and JJ with flashbacks but I really hope they show the dragon in its full form. I'm assuming this will be the most effects heavy show of all the solo shows.

Yeah, but it's nothing like the BvS thread. It's the wild wild west over there.

In that case this one is...

To be fair though, BvS is about Batman and Superman. This is about a C-List Marvel character about whose show we have nothing apart from the casting. There's not a lot to talk about, but I was expecting more wishlisting.

That's still in my queue on Amazon. Is it worth it?

It's quite short (about 1:30) and it can be a bit slow, but yeah, I'd say it's worth it for the imagery alone. Fassbender is obviously the selling point, but the rest of the cast does a bang up job as well. I'd recommend it truth be told.

So back on topic:

Hopefully we'll see some...

Unify DD, Cage & Rand. Plus: Jessica Jones, Elektra, Kingpin, Punisher, Gladiator, Tha Hand . . . etc?

This is a first, right?

Who has attempted this yet?:dunno

Well, considering Bautista is American/Phillipino/Greek, I don't see how he could've landed the role of Cage. Luke's an African-American, there's no wiggle room.

Why not, they seem to be willing to switch race for no reason on many occasions. I actually like the guy who they picked for Luke Cage.

As for the guy to play Iron Fist, I don't really remember him being memorable on GoT. Hopefully he works out.
