Time for another salary battle:
Samuel L. Jackson has said that Nick Fury will not appear in The Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers 4, or Black Panther - and he doesn't seem entirely happy about that.
Speaking to Yahoo Movies UK, the veteran actor (who hasn't appeared in a Marvel film since 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron) was pretty clear about his status in the next superhero team-up: "I’m not in Avengers 3 and 4. They’re shooting them now - they haven’t called me yet.”
Avengers: Infinity War has wrapped, but the untitled Avengers 4 has only recently begun production.
Jackson seems more irked about being left out of another upcoming Marvel project, however:
“They wouldn’t let me go to Black Panther-ville. It’s kind of like: 'How you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?'”
But, but, Marvel is notorious for not even telling the actors stuff and just calling them to show up. The Russos have already said they're focusing on several major arcs in IW and then other key characters will have smaller, but important roles e.g. handling the massive cast so the story isn't complete chaos.
And IMO *logically* there's no particular reason for Fury to show up in BP. I'm guessing they could write something in, no problem, but seems like a pretty crammed cast already + there's already sort of a mentor figure in Zuri, apparently. Maybe it was would have been one "wise older figure" too many to have Fury there.
Anyway I was more PO'd about no Bucky, Cap, team Cap etc. in BP (tho I've read a lot of discussion pro and con). I just thought it was too much of a big fat elephant in the room and too important of a narrative to just do a throw-away line about it after CW (as well as my blatant favoritism love team Cap). Too important of a statement about T'Challa and who he is as a character.
But reading some older stuff the Russos were talking about Cap/Bucky and Vision/Wanda and IW arcs all the way back to 2015-16, right after they were confirmed for IW. Hadn't thought that e.g. if "related" films are already in planning before another film, then the "newer" film can't spin a story that might mess up the already-planned story. E.g. the Russos already had dibs on Team Cap. Maybe.
I just don't like story arcs and casting being done for "social" reasons IMO that doesn't usually work out well. IMO story arcs should make some kind of *logical* sense. E.g I guess the writers could use Fury in BP but sounds like then they used up more of his contract and he might be needed in other films.
