Mass Effect 3 To Incorporate 4-Player Co-Op?

According to anonymous sources in and around the interwebs, BioWare is working on adding a four-player co-operative component to Mass Effect 3, offering "competitive elements" and "original missions made for online". Apparently, said co-op missions will be separate to the campaign and will be designed with repeated play in mind.

There'll be a handful of these missions, if the sources are accurate, and they'll be designed with broadening Mass Effect 3's mainstream appeal firmly in mind. "Mainstream penetration is a major goal for Mass Effect 3 and those high up feel online co-op is the answer they're looking for," the source revealed. "EA's keen to push the multiplayer side of the game to help spread word of mouth - so it's not just going to rehash stuff from the campaign. It's going all out."

While this is rumour for now - and BioWare's Ray Muzyka refused to confirm or deny th existence of multiplayer to OXM - speculation surrounding Mass Effect multiplayer has been kicking around for some time now, so it might not be beyond the realms of possibility. That said, we'll believe it when we see it. Mass Effect 3 is out in March 2012.

Multiplayer has no business being in a Mass Effect game. Damn EA and wanting to make Mass Effect with mass appeal, games like this will never have huge sellouts and break sales records like the Gears, Halo, or Cod games. They keep changing what isnt broke and then ____ it up by implementing stuff that deviates from what made the game great in the first place. Dragon Age Origins was a great rpg but then EA wanted to make it appeal to the masses and put out a sub par game with DA2.

Man, can Bioware's rep drop any further this year? Dragon Age 2 flopped, The Old Republic was a practical no-show at E3, and now Mass Effect 3 has multiplayer.

I'm worried, guys. Everything shown at E3 pertaining to ME3 was it's 'enhanced' combat. Nothing about the rpg elements. If this game turns into a run-of-the-mill sci-fi shooter I'd be totally bummed.

Well for me i'm glad they're improving the combat as I felt it was one of the weaker aspects of no.2! The RPG aspect can't really get any better!

But I can definitely see what you all mean. Screw EA!

I would hope that the multiplayer aspect does not effect the single player. This game was never meant to be MP. Especially since you are having to build relationships with your crew members. They should leave it alone and concentrate on the story and SP gameplay.

Thats just the thing the rpg element can get better just look at ME1. Unfortunately EA wants to dumb things down for the masses and make it combat heavy and drop the rpg down to yes or no questions and now with them toying with mp just plain sucks. I loved ME2 but I would have liked it to have had more rpg elements in it.

Me2 was awesome, however I think they should have kept the level up element from 1. Just allocating stuff to your powers was meh.....

Also, it would have been awesome to be able to pick up different weapons/armor and mod them like the first one as well. I doubt that would come back, but it would be nice.

Bioware just announced on FB That they will be at SDCC and bringing a working ME3 demo to play. I will sooooooooo be there. I can't wait for the demo.
