I was thinking of this earlier today, and I think the big difference is the level of detail on the headsculpts.

He-Man still looked like the original He-Man. The difference was that the details in the sculpt were sharper, and the proportions were more realistic. In a nutshell, things like the eyes were more detailed and realistic, and his head wasn't as squat and cartoony.

In Clawful's case, the facial features are left pretty simplified. Don't get me wrong - it's still a cool figure, and much improved on the original. Some of the details are indeed sharper, but I think the main problem is the design of his eyes. Big, googly eyes with black dots for irises look cartoony, there's no two ways about it.

They added detail and made He-Man's eyes look a lot more realistic. Granted, that may be a bit more challenging with an alien/monster type character, but it's not like the 4H haven't been able to do that before.

But cartoony or not....He's been upgraded and matches the original figure, like the rest of the line...thats what I Love about this line because I feel like a kid again(brings back the memories)....Trap Jaw has yellow eyes with a dot eye and looks great plus he looks just like his original figure and so does Clawful = Perfect!

yea but there is something about the trapjaw figure that seems updated in the face, doesn't seem as goofy as the original... In the case of clawful, its terrible IMO, no update whatsoever...

exactly there is some update to the sculpt while classics clawful seems as if there is no update to the original sculpt... Just looks too muppetish...

Did you really?
Damn!! I just bought them for full price online... :gah:

My ToysRUs still has Skeletor vs. Luthor only... :slap

Buttmunch had bought the set, but he only wanted to keep the DCUC figures (he's the one who told everybody they were on sale last month). I know he was selling the MOTUC figures, so I'm not sure if he still has Merman and Stratos available?!

The muppet head looks exactly like the vintage version to me. I'm the hoping the flash photography was flattening the details, but I really don't see any of the usual sculpting updates from the 4HM on this head. At least Clawful's body was updated and looks fantastic.

I like the Muppets,so it doesnt bother me....Clawful is meant to look like the original (same with the rest of the line) and it isnt going to change anytime soon! 4 horseman has yet to fail...

Not that I want to interrupt your thread war but I wanted to share this custom I came across and wanted to know if anyone knew anything about it.

It says that it was some kind of custom, and was limited to 1000 pieces, anyone see this before?

You're right, the details are sharper. The texture especially looks better, as do the teeth. However, the eyes look the same, and I wish they would have done just a LITTLE more work to make them seem more realistic. Personally I think they all the may have needed to do is make them a little more menacing looking - it wouldn't actually change the design much at all, but it'd help tone down the googly "Muppet" eyes a bit.

You're right about Trap Jaw, but given the wide variety of facial designs in this line, what works for one figure may not work for another.

I see sharper detail. Just not in the eyes.

Hey, I like the Muppets too, but that doesn't mean MOTU should take design cues from them! ;)

All in all, I still rather like the figure. It's not a deal breaker for me. I just hope it's not a sign of things to come.

CustomCon 14

What is CustomCon, you ask? CustomCon is a special semi-annual presentation of new custom toy creations by customizers around the globe. Seven years in the running, it's still going strong. Inspired by the presentations of new product by legitimate manufacturers at Toy Fair and other trade shows, CustomCon is a "fake" convention, whereby customizers present their latest creations and recipes as if unveiling a new line of real toys to retailers. It's always a lot of fun, for both the viewers and the participants.

yup, i've seen that before. i see red X's all the time. i don't think they are limited to 1000 though. they hand them out to all those who don't know how to hotlink.

Am I really the only person on this board that liked NA He-Man? sure it was goofy but so was the original. I I'm so excited to finally see a NA He-man. We are finally getting a man e faces so now we can get our NA love on.....once the great muppet debate is over
