I don't know why they don't just do pre-orders for everything instead of this sub nonsense.

because that woud make too much sense. i suppose pre-ordering would allow cancellations before shipping, which is what they are trying to avoid. they want guaranteed sales so they don't have any leftover inventory to store. subs are not supposed to be able to get cancelled, although i know that you can but you have to talk with Digital River.

i just wish people with subs would get an option near order time that would guarantee them the non-sub stuff. like a month before hand send an email that would allow you to lock in an order.

PS. i'm also pissed that Swiftwind is in the sub, but the only She-ra that can actually ride the thing, is not in the sub. so if she sells out fast, then i'll have a Swiftwind that can't have its intended rider posed on it.

Easy answer

They want you to buy it ALL! even the figures you don't really want!

I almost guarantee that the 2013 Subs will be the only way to buy the figures and that they will do away with sales day all together..if not for 2013, for sure in 2014, if the line even makes it that far....

I don't know of any business model like that. I'm sure there's something out there, possibly something I already know about, but I can't think of one.

I know of other companies that offer subscriptions like the Matty sub. For example Spyderco offers a membership where by opting in you agree to purchase every regular knife release, like with the Matty sub I believe variants and short-runs are excluded. But the majority of Spyderco's sales are still of single products. They just offer the membership as a sort of boon to the more devoted members of their fanbase (the membership knives also come engraved with a membership number).

But as I said, I dont know of any subscription only business, and I really don't know of any that are toys. Everyone else in this market gets around production overflow through pre-selling.

the problem is that Mattel is just like every other company out there. they are blinded by corporate greed. a 200% profit isn't as good as a 300% profit. why make a million dollars when you can make a million and one dollars. unfortunately i work for a company with this very mindset and it's hurting us big time with all the corners they cut as well as all the jobs they are eliminating. i'm expecting my company to close within the next 5 years and then i don't know what the hell i'm gonna do.

Uuhg. I work for a non-profit (I am not a hippy I swear) but a friend of mine does not and works for a large "traditionally" structured company. By that I mean that about 1-5% of the employees make 80-90% of the money. He, who is one of those 1-5% even, was telling me about how one of his bosses was trying to figure out how these small companies out bid them.

I think it's indicative of how a lot of these people think, what his boss's conclusion was. Small tech companies don't offer their employees health benefits. So in order to compete his large company needs to cut health benefits. He completely misses the point that those small companies don't have massive management overhead that just hemorrhages money and doesn't actually do anything. The lack of health benefits has little or nothing to do with it.

when i started at my job, my health plan had a $200 deductible. it has gradually gone up every year. next year it will be $1500. i get tiny raises each year and they defend this by saying our pay is a combination of salary and benifits. but yet i gotta pay more for benefits every year so how is that offset by my tiny raise?

At least you have benefits. I'm underpaid and don't have any benefits at all and that includes any paid holiday time.

BACK TO MOTUC: Common mutha___in' Roton. I was hoping that would have been announced by now.

My most wanted is the Doomcoptor, but the Roton is a much more realistic want.

Well for your sake,I hope that doesnt happen.Things are definitely not looking up for the economy, which makes me wonder how Mattel thinks the line will last till 2017 or more.Already people are backing away from the subs and I may not get the 2013 sub unless Ram Man and Spikor are in it early...no more holding these hostage

i definately want a Roton. that is my most wanted evil vehicle. i have my vintage one here, but classics figures don't fit in it.

I want Landshark :)

speaking of the crumbling economy, whats everyone elses plan for when thing fail completely, and our infrastructure collapses?

I've got access to a Cold war " the reds are gonna get us" bunker stocked with enough canned foods to last a few decades, as well as enough munitions to defend it.

No, I didn't build it, nor own it. I've just been invited to stay there when things fall apart next year.
