Yeah, it's because they didn't really have that worked out story-wise in the beginning, IIRC. On the Grayskull box art, Skeletor is actually in Grayskull. It was meant to be more of a neutral place of power—with both sides fighting for control over it.

Not sure how I feel about the design. The skull does throw me off. They've got some feather motiffs in there, it seems. Which makes sense with zoar/the Sorceress. But the skull is kind of weird to me. I think it's a pretty cool design over all and certainly recognizable as a A He-man. Just not one I'm familiar with, which makes me less inclined to plonk down hundreds of dollars for it.

Nope...

I think it's cool to see another high end shop's interpretation of He-Man, it's a cool design, but not really for me (I think something like this design would look real cool for a movie).

I can't say I particularly care for Sideshow's He-Man at this point either. I'm curious as to what Skeletor will look like and what other characters they have planned.

The more I see it, the more I like it. It's a updated take on the classic, what's wrong with that? They could even use that new muscle buck body they have for the 12" Batman figure and make a new 12" line of Masters figures.

I am all for new MOTU product but I feel "artist interpretations" might be premature given we have no new media to really push a new look to the characters.
This statue along with incoming Skeletor was design by Stjepan Šejić whose an artist who loves MOTU and one I have great respect for. So this fact along with it being Sideshow make me interested to see it. My worry is that with the truly awesome PCS He-man statue (along with Battle) Cat due out, who will but an interpretation over something very familiar?!

Seem Mattel is becoming fast and loose with the MOTU license. This is very interesting.

Mattel seems to not give a rat's ass about the property, and is giving the license to everyone else to use. I wish the 4H would seize control over the classics line and give us REALLY special things.

out of all the Mattel's lending out the MOTU license, The Loyal Subjects line has me most excited.Articulated Mini figures with Playsets and vehicles

Agreed!

Probably won't go all in on this one, though.

Mattel makes toys, that's it. They license all of this third party stuff because they're not setup to produce statues, collectibles, t-shirts, designer figures, comic books, etc. They're making MOTU toys right now. They have given us a complete vintage lineup of figures and added in some great beasts, vehicles, and Castle friggin' Grayskull. How can you say they don't give a rat's a** about the property? Maybe you could explain better what you intended with this statement.

So by this logic, Those MUSCLES aren't toys??? The ReAction figures aren't toys??? The rainbow colored giant vintage figures aren't toys?

And ask yourself WHY did Mattel handover the GIANTS (a failed toy line) to Super7??? It seems to me Mattel doesn't want to take any more risks with the MOTU property anymore and is dumping it on other people who just want to cash in on it. They probably can't wait for the Classics line to run it's course so they can move on, but I guess we'll know for sure in a week.

"How can you say they don't give a rat's a** about the property?"

I said Mattel SEEMS to not give a rat's ass about the property. Quite frankly, they NEVER (in recent years) seemed to care very much about it one way or another, otherwise they wouldn't have allowed abominations like Baby Skeletor or those inaccurate jumbo figures to be made.

"Maybe you could explain better what you intended with this statement."

What I intended? LOL! Sorry, I don't have an agenda, I just type what I feel.
