Animation/colors looking sharp! Hope that woke stuff ain't true.
Same. the trailer was solid, but anyone can make a trailer look good. That said, animation is awesome and I love how all the characters look like the characters. Updated and whatnot, but they stayed true to the 'classic' look and even toned down some of the Mike Young stuff (big, oversized armor, creepy orko, etc)

So, the part in the trailer when we see Orko (I assume its him) using magic, you hear manical laughter. Is that Skeletor or Orko actually laughing. Did not sound just like a Mark Hamill laugh!?! Maybe reading into it way too much, but my first thought: what if Skeletor has an evil orko (trollan) on his side this time?

Lesbian Teela comin' atcha... She don't need NO man...

Why do they feel they need to give her that style of haircut to let people know she is badass??

Why in the world is it now slowly becoming standard practice in entertainment to make female badass heroes look less and less feminine and more and more masculine. Butch haircuts, manly attitudes... For ***** sake. :slap

A female hero can look like a Woman, act like a Woman, be hot/attractive, and still kick ass..

I'm pretty sure a good 80% of the He-Man fanbase is most likely male and not female, let alone manly looking lesbians..

I now officially believe all the leaks that this is indeed the Teela show. Saving Eternia from all the toxic masculinity that ****** it up... And sadly, not that there is anything wrong with that, but it's how they are going about doing it. A few years ago I may have been excited for that. Now it's just bad timing and is now a turn off for me rather than being cool.. I hate ideals being shoved down my throat.

I don't mind Teela being the main focus of the show. The Filmation cartoon hinted at her backstory a lot, so I get it. There's a story to tell there. Whatever. However, what bothers me is Kevin Smith being a whiny ***** and dismissing rumors that she's the main character as fake - rumors that are obviously true. His own damn synopsis of the show at Power Con said the fate of Eternia is up to Teela - yet he was doing damage control saying "obviously He-Man is the focus, guys!" and trying to start witch hunts against those spreading these rumors. He talks about rumors for other shows and movies all the time on his podcast, but flips his lid when it happens to his own project.

I might check this out, but Kevin Smith's social media shenanigans lying about this show have definitely soured me on it a bit.

There is already a He-man show with a female lead. It’s called She-ra. So it was dumb to make this a Teela show.

We still don't know if he lied. Teela playing an important role doesn't mean it's entirely about her. If the central theme of this new series is exploring how Adam's secret affects those closest to him, of course Teela will be a big part of that. You could follow Randor and Marlena instead, but that's not as interesting an angle as Adam's childhood friend. Sadly, she also happens to be female, so peoples' woke sensors will latch onto that and assume the worst before remembering she's not just a random character.

Clickbait YouTube channels like Clownfish TV tore the show apart after the photo release, then reacted positively to the first trailer, then reverted to bashing when the second trailer came out. This is useless reactionary nonsense. Best to wait until the show comes out.

Some tidbits from a new Kevin Smith interview yesterday:

https://uproxx.com/tv/kevin-smith-interview-masters-of-the-universe-revelation/
The method to the madness, your true inspiration, now comes to light.

For ten years, I’ve been studying Kevin Feige as a f*ckin’ fan. How the f*ck do you do this? How the f*ck do you give me my childhood back and make me love it even more than I loved it the first time? You make me feel young watching this sh*t, man. So, I said to the writers’ room, “We’re just gonna model this. We’re gonna do the Marvel method, not like they did in the comic books, where you write the dialogue later. We’re gonna do the Marvel Cinematic Universe method, which is that we’re gonna give them their exact childhood back and accentuate it. We’re gonna do it better than the show that they saw and reach into their f*ckin’ memories and show them their memories of this thing.” Because if people watched the teaser and are like, “Oh my god, there’s so much action, it’s just like my childhood.” I urge them to go back and watch the show that we’re sequelizing. There was no action. They couldn’t.

Exactly. There was no swordplay in the old show, and no real followthrough on peril, and no actual deaths.

Yeah! Right? Nobody got to stab or anything like that, so what we’re showing them is a heightened version of their memories. There are all the characters as you remember them. They’re all designed the same, and their relationships are all the same, but we can actually have them hit each other and stab each other. People could die, and there are real consequences and stakes for that sort of thing. So, the idea in the writers’ room was, “Look, we have to have it ready for the audience, so when they watch it, they’re like, ‘Holy sh*t, my toys are exactly where I left them. Let me have fun again.'” And you know, they’re adults, so they can deal with a more grown-up story, so to speak. And I hope everyone loves it as much as I do, I know that won’t be the case, but I know they’ll love this more than anything else I’ve ever done, as a whole.

So, when the teaser came out, a false rumor spread that there wasn’t much He-Man in this show. How did you deal with shutting down talk that this was The Teela Show?

It’s been hard. I couldn’t say certain things, and in the absence, people filled in their own details. There was a post that somebody made on Twitter. They were like, “I heard from an inside source that says this is The Teela Show. Teela proves that she’s a better He-Man than He-Man. She gets the sword, and she’s got a girlfriend.” I was like, “Look, I wish you were there with us in the writers’ room. That would have been fun, but I can honestly tell you that is not the f*cking show. You were lied to.” Then they saw the teaser and were like, “Teela’s all over it!” And I was like, “Yes, but if you are familiar with the show and are as big of a fan as you say you were, then you’ll remember that in every single episode of Masters of the Universe, Teela was right there, fighting for Adam, protecting him, or fighting side-by-side with He-Man.” The same thing with Evil-Lyn and Skeletor. People are like, “Is this woke?” And if this is woke, then they were woke in 19f*cking83. Because we’re literally doing the same sh*t.

Did they get rid of He-Man for a few episodes and shave Teela's head in 1983? Like you say, best to wait till it's out. Not long now.

I'm on episode two and the show is good. Provided the end of the storyline brings back you-know-who.

The animation is fantastic. Tri-Klops is kinda scary now. Teela's new outfit is ugly as sin. And she seems a tad irrationally angry at everything. Smith did do his homework as this is a true sequel to the Filmation version of the show, but clearly retains some of the Mike Young version. I dig the take on Orko. My fav will always be the Filmation version but this is way better than the hippie dippie Young version. And thank goodness Cringer talks

Lena Headey as Evil Lynn is genius.

I just hope people that follow Youtube channels like: Midnight's Edge, Nerdrotic, the Quartering and that SW Girl take their negativity with a grain of salt. Of course they are just after the clicks. And what better way to get people to click on your channel other than taking a giant **** on something. Tried and true Youtube method.

CONS:

Yeah, Teela's regrettably one-note. It doesn't bother me that she's our guide through the story while He-Man is gone (accompanied by others of course), but her visual design and writing are so uncreative. I don't know why writers think being pouty and having an androgynous appearance equates to strength. Male characters had that phase (long haired and edgy/grim) and it became cringey once it lost its initial novelty. Sure, some examples of that still exist in pop culture today, but it's not in vogue like it once was. The same thing's happening today with characters like Teela, just a shame the show couldn't come out after Hollywood had gotten this tendency out of its system.

Plus the hairstyle will date the show heavily. It's very much of the 2010s and, like the "bangs over the eyes" emo cuts of the mid-2000s, will be distracting five years from now when the culture has moved onto a different trend. I don't know why they couldn't have just kept Teela's long hair and had her wear it down or put it in a ponytail. It's different enough from her palace look to signify that she's changed.

She's my least favorite character and it has nothing to do with her femininity or the role she serves here. The writers just made her a cliche. An unfortunate treatment for any character.

Another thing I have a problem with is the ending...
Only reason I'm not totally losing my mind is because I know we're only halfway through the story. Having that said, much like Teela's writing, the ending is uncreative, inelegant, and lacks subtlety. Death seems to be the only tool in Kevin Smith's arsenal to create tension. He's made a habit of it in the past and continues to do so here. I wouldn't mind it if it wasn't so cheap, but again, there's time for the ship to right itself.

But seriously, Skeletor could've easily taken the sword from Adam without killing him a second time. The dude wasn't even transformed, it would've been a cinch. Just feels like clumsy screenwriting to go all the way to death again for something that could've been done with a punch.

PROS:

There's some good world building here -- characters, places, artifacts -- and I'm always going to be a sucker for it. This is what I want out of a MOTU show in 2021 and in that regard, I'm happy.

Ditto on Lena Headey, she's brilliantly cast and I wouldn't mind seeing her play Evil Lynn in a live-action MOTU feature as well.

I also really like what they did with Adam, he has to be my favorite version of the character so far. He looks different enough from He-Man, but still has the purity and wholesomeness of his super-powered alter ego. As much as I loved the 2002 series growing up, that version of Adam was just a rambunctious kid. It's nice to see selflessness and grace even in our hero's teenage form.

Andra is a better Teela than Teela. :lol

The animation is gorgeous, best we've had in a MOTU outing IMO.

SO-SO:

Hamill as Skeletor works, but all I can hear is Joker. The 2002 version did it better, they just emulated classic Skeletor with a bit more cunning and intimidation mixed in. That was perfect.

OVERALL:

I wouldn't call it this "The Teela Show." Revelations is undoubtedly about the Masters and their world. Teela just happens to be our vehicle for exploring Eternia and its other characters after the cataclysm. Or at least, she's the person we start that journey with. Were she better-written, I'd have no problem with it.

It's a shame we have to overlook Teela (and possibly the midseason ending) to enjoy the show fully, but there is much to be enjoyed here.

Crowd pleasing really should've been the only priority with a property like MOTU, though. Try to do more and you risk doing damage. On that note, the next five episodes will determine whether Revelations is either a solid entry or a complete disaster for the brand. Kevin Smith said he wanted stakes. There they are.

Whether it's good or not, and you/and others enjoyed it, is irrelevant. It doesn't change the fact that it is NOT about He-Man (Part 1 at least). This was quoted to be made for the "fans" of the original by Kevin Smith himself.

But, it isn't. It's the Teela and her girl crew show. Fans of the original already liked Teela. She was always portrayed as a strong female character. But most don't want her front and center, let alone He-Man is nowhere to be found. They wanted a new He-Man show.

There's already a female led centric Masters Of the Universe. It's called She-Ra. Maybe you've heard of it? Females have never been left out of the fun. Little boys in the 80's had He-Man, little girls had She-Ra. But, today it's no longer acceptable to have shows tailored to a male audience. If there is a such show, then it's considered misogynistic.

Maybe as a whole it will turn out to be good, and I will like it. But I don't want to watch Part 1 and be annoyed. I will happily wait till Part 2 is released and then be able to watch it as a whole.
