the articles above also try to justify the cost based in the toys mccoy indiana jones being produced in a quantity of 3000 several years ago and this piece will only be made at 600 pieces (hence the cost almost 5 times as high as the indy was).

Exactly! HT ED-209, Powerloader and Tumbler are huge and super-detailed and much less than this piece. I just don't get the price. Too bad. I really wanted one, but at that price I can't even consider it.

Several years ago, I picked up a 1/6th kit of one of these Armored SAFS suits. While the bulk of the kit is resin, it also came with metal pieces and springs and stuff. I haven't built it yet, but now I'm tempted in doing so and throwing it on Ebay.Japan with a starting bid of $1500...
