Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Don't even count on it.

I'm hoping ... not counting on it.
I think with all the alien figs hot toys have produced they could do an amazing job with this. I will buy it whether it sucks or not seeing as though I'm a completionist but I really do have high hopes for hot toys's attempt.. :D

Hot Toys is capable, but they already passed on making the ALIENS figure accurrate, so the odds of an HT ALIEN as accurrate as Medi is now 50/50, at least this is sure thing. I hope HT shows one off before crunch time to make a decision about the Medi though. HT's will be about the same price as this one, and with ALIEN, accurracy is more important, there wasn't really a "character" like in ALIENS, which allowed the HT ALIENS figure to be acceptable because it has a badass ferocity to it that embodies they're behavior in the film. ALIEN, the creature was a looming presence mainly, there's no loose way to represent it outside of the base design and be ok, at least to me.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

I wonder... if Medicom's "supremely accurate" ALIEN figure was 2 inches tall would some folks still be fawning?

First off, it's not supremely accurate.
The feet are wrong, the proportions are way off and there's some detail lacking.
So to me, it's not a matter of supreme accuracy (I've got the NECA figure for that -when it arrives). But it keeps the figure within acceptable boundaries (IMHO) and is not an "artistic interpretation". Also, it should be adequately poseable, which never hurts. And it's size makes for an interesting display piece.
I also have the Konami Alien figure, and even though it's 4" tall, it still kicks all kind of ass, so I do fawn over it.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

Then why this presumption (by many on here) that the eventual Hot Toys ALIEN won't be as good?

Here's the thing: Even if the HT Alien doesn't turn out so hot (which I think is doubtful, given that they're the best 1/6 company in the market and get better all the time) you could probably get the Medicom version on the secondary market for LESS than its retail price. Medicom figures hardly ever hold their value. Not even SW ones (Vader is the exception). And if the HT Alien is a huge hit... the value of this one is going to plummet, especially since the HT fig will be nice to display with your other 1/6 ALIEN stuff.

With all that in mind, there is just no way I can get up for a $160+ 11.8" figure. But to each his own. Enjoy the fawning.

See, your problem is that you continually compare this with HT's stuff. Those of us who "fawn" over it, as you obviously do your HT figs, are interested in it simply because it's a great Alien fig. You limit yourself by only collecting 1:6 scale figs. There's a whole world of other great Alien and Predator collectibles out there.

But, to each his own. Enjoy your HT fawning.

I think what it boils down to is what people are looking for in an ALIEN figure.

If you're simply out for a 12" or larger figure that represents the minutia of detail in an accurrate manner, but doesn't have to be very articulated, NECA's the way to go.

If you want about 80-90% accurracy but with hefty articulation and more hidden joints, for now, Medicom is the way to go.

If you want a figure that represents the creature pretty well but is more to scale with other figures in your collection, an eventual HT figure should meet that.

I think the general feeling towards the Medicom Alien right now is that it's a great option to have a figure in the style most are used to owning now with Sideshow, Hot Toys and Medicom, as opposed or in addition to the NECA figure, and don't care that it's out of scale to other figures or what it costs because for now it is, and possibly in the future could be, the only option to get accurracy and design quality all in one package.

Personally, I'm going to get the Hot Toys ALIEN over Medicom if the Hot Toys one is as accurrate or more so because it will fit more with my collection. However, for ALIEN, my taste is to have it look the most like the Giger suit, so if HT takes their artistic license again, that'll til the scales in favor of this Medicom figure.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

IMO..lots of chance that the hot toy version will kik medicom's ass.Was there ever a case when Medicom and Hot toys did the same figure and the one by Medicom was better ??? I dont think so...

True that, BUT, Hot Toys was worse than itself in the ALIENS figure case. I know it's an old argument so I won't go far into it, but the HT 1/6 figure is significantly departed from the design in the film, where the HT Snap Kit ALIENS were great. It wasn't as though Hot Toys couldn't get it right, they just took artistic liberties for some reason. If they tried to be as close to the Giger suit as possible, I'd agree it'll probably crush the Medicom figure, but if they don't make that choice, this figure will stand as our only option for an accurrate piece of it's kind.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

I don't know how accurate it can be considering the proportions of the RAH body. Yet another reason (height/scale being the main one) why Medicom shouldn't have developed this around it. Bolaji Badejo was far lankier than the RAH body is capable of achieving.

Proportionally, you're right, it probably won't be as effective in replicating the proportions from screen to figure. That's a detail I could ignore liberties and necessities being taken with. My concern is the actually designs on the anatomy and how much they are matched to Giger's work.

Re: Medicom RAH Alien 2008!

And why shouldn't I? They are the exact same market and compete for my collectible dollars.

See, I just don't see it as "competition for my collectible dollars."

I'll be getting both as I think they're both just great collectibles. The NECA is just damn close to a perfect, suit accurate sculpt. The Medi is a fantastic sculpt as well, if not totally suit accurate. So, as far as I'm concerned, HT can just go hog wild with their sculpt.

But, I've got a 24" Marmit that's suit sculpt accurate and the smaller Marmit statues that are incredible sculpts themselves.

I just don't see narrowing a collection down to only 1:6 figures. That is just too limiting. I like variety.
